midds
Even if I could manage to somehow convince myself that Benitez would ignore the inevitable job offers he's going to get this summer and stay I still can't believe Ashley would consider paying a proven PL manager a PL manager's wage in the Championship. Hard to say which party would want the termination of his contract more tbh.
Scotty66
Me neither, but I don't think it's entirely out of the question. Ashley knows relegation would bring a huge shit storm his way. His only trump card to keep the fans happy is Rafa.

I'd also think the Wongaloids would gulp down the preferred media partner propaganda about how Rafa's inexperience in relegation battles is what took us down and his inexperience in the championship would stop us coming back up. Or, Ashley wouldn't give a shit about the fans, as per.

We're rotten from top to bottom, we need a dictator imo, someone who runs the whole thing. Not a head coach type, but a proper manager. Every level of the club, from scouting to academy needs major surgery. If it isn't rafa, I hope they give it to moyes and give give him full control of the lot. A short term appointment to get us back up just delays this process for me. Totally agree on Pearson. He'd be horrendous. Some dopes next to me at the Southampton game on Saturday were complaining about Rafa (not ready for a relegation team..................) and hailing the virtues of Nigel Pissing Pearson. That's our own fans.
Mattoon
It's cool as fuck to rip on the match goers. Like they're the fucking issue, man. No one said they're the issue, but they aren't exactly the solution are they?

Big Geordie
One thing you know for sure, there's going to be hell on once relegation is finally confirmed. Even the happy clappers and the 'soopafans' will be looking for someone to blame. Club will go quiet, as they did back in 2009.

Big Geordie
I'm not sure there is 'hell-on' at the moment - there is among those who stay away like myself and others, but inside St James Park - apathy reigns supreme. The players, the owner and the board have had an easy ride, thus far. That's what I was getting at.
Ketsbaia
As if our fans will do anything. There's a generation who wear our struggles like a badge of honour - it means they can belittle other fans. "I was there when we were shit" etc. Ashley will very comfortable.

wacko
I reckon Rafa would stay. Like I said before, I think NUFC is a very appealing club to him (by which I mean the fans). The major issue, as I see it, is that he doesn't suffer fools gladly. So a falling-out with Ashley is probably inevitable…

TRon
Depends if Charnley etc get the boot. I'm pretty sure he will. Carr, him, Concur and McClaren working as our cheap as chips advisory board have cost Ashley this season and next. He'd have to be an absolute imbecile to lose the best manager he's ever appointed since Keegan.
Ronaldo
Underselling him a bit there, like. Benitez is the best manager we've appointed in our modern history.
Mick
I think Rafa will stay here and I think he'll get all of the power he asks for. Keeping Rafa is a no brainer and I think he'll be seen as a buffer for the idiots he works for and I think they'll realise they've got as lucky as they'll ever get with appointing him. His wages will be less than one of our higher earning players so I doubt that will be an issue. I walked away a couple of years ago but will definitely look to get another season ticket for next season if he's still here, no matter which division we're in. Carr is almost certain to go, the best he can hope for is to stay with reduced say in transfers and I would expect Charnley might get the bullet if we get relegated. My worry about Charnley getting the bullet is that Llambias could come back and that would keep me away from the club.
Leazes_End_Mag
I'd be getting my hopes up of him staying if I hadn't seen Ashleys interview a couple of weeks ago. Fully expect Ian Cathro to be in charge on day 1 of our championship challenge.

For a lot of our fans, whatever the club does is absolutely the right decision, no matter what. Why do I have to explain this?
Dr Venkman
I'm surprised that the people dismissing the idea of him staying are the same that denied he would come in the first place, didn't you learn last time? You're too quick to write off anything positive without thinking about it rationally. The reasons Rafa would stay are the same as the reasons he would come in the first place. Yeah, he's going to need more power and concessions will have to be made that go against Ashley's history here, but that's been happening all season. Just a few months ago plenty of people were saying he'd never sack McClaren even though the club's transfer policy has obviously changed. It's a bit more of a stretch this time, granted, but it's certainly realistic.
