Darth Crooks
But what Benitez found most pleasing about Newcastle’s performance was not their “fight” - something he believes they have shown plenty of in recent weeks - but the quality he believed they displayed out on the field against Alan Pardew’s men. We can’t win the game if we just fight,” the 56-year-old explained. “We have to play football so we tried to move the ball on the floor and you could see the difference with the chances we created and control we had. “They were still dangerous with second balls but we were much better in possession.” “We didn’t play well in the first half but it wasn’t an easy game. “Physically Palace are stronger than us you can see the size of their players so we had to play a bit better with the ball and we improved in the second half." Gold. Man that's so refreshing compared to all the race to the bottom shite you get from the likes of Pardew

Conjo
During the customary handshake before and after the game, Benitez gave Pardew a quick pat on the cheek which I found more pleasing than it probably should have. Felt like a proper Cesar Millan trick to "exert you dominance".

Mick
We rarely hear anything from Rafa away from pre and post match press conferences, he just quietly gets on with his job because he's good enough to do that. Our managers in the recent past have been shite and have had to try and compensate for that by telling everybody about how good they were or how good a job they were doing. A good manager doesn't have to do that, he praises the players and doesn't want to steal the limelight.

Not enough fret, pashun, battle and fight in there for me like It's not like Benitez doesn't value battle or fight, he's just smart enough to recognise they aren't the only attributes a team needs. Dann's a big strong lad, but he got done for lack of agility by Townsend's clever movement and that led to the winner. Anita's smaller than Janmaat but he's twice as hard working and diligent. It's about having a strong spine first, then you can build the flair around a solid base.
Wallace
We rarely hear anything from Rafa away from pre and post match press conferences, he just quietly gets on with his job because he's good enough to do that. Our managers in the recent past have been s**** and have had to try and compensate for that by telling everybody about how good they were or how good a job they were doing. A good manager doesn't have to do that, he praises the players and doesn't want to steal the limelight. The same thing has struck me about the difference between a quality manager and an average/poor one Benitez does not need or have the desire to promote a different reality to the wider world. For the poorer manager it is all about self-preservation and not about the club or the players but about them as they concentrate their efforts on keeping their jobs and maintaining a reputation. They constantly feel the need to say they are doing a good job and that anything positive is down to them. They can't worry about the rest of the club such as the Academy because all their focus is on the first team hence they like to play it safe and go for experienced players rather than take a risk with a youngster. I hope the club is now able to see the difference a quality manager brings.
Wallace
That dopey NE correspondent on talkSPORT was saying how lovely Rafa is with everyone in and outside the club. He always stops and talks to the fans waiting after games and said it was a refreshing change. It brings back memories of Keegan having that connection with the fans.
