triggs
Cannot see what Varadi has said wrong there like, we were playing Colback at LB iirc. When Dummett returned for the final 6 we never lost a game. It's obviously not solely down to Dummett (he never said it was) but it isn't a huge stretch to suggest we could have picked up 3 points with an actual LB and Anita out of midfield. I remember checking some stats on him when he was getting slated at the time - this is our record in the relegation season with and without Dummett in the team: 30 points from 23 games Dummett started, 1.30ppg 7 points from 15 he missed, 0.47ppg Obviously the relative quality of his replacements was a factor, but it's by no means a stretch to say had he stayed fit we would've got the extra couple of points needed. He played at centre back a lot that season. Again, it's mainly at left back in the Premier League that he's been shite. He played like three games at centre back in his entire time here and I don't even think it was that season

I'd go as far as to say he's probably played less than 5 games as a CB for us.

Odear
It's going forward that he struggles.. any full back in the PL has to be able to defend and contribute going forward. Good squad player to have though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Figures 1-0 Football
Those stats are fine, but you have to factor in that when Dummett was missing we didnt have any other LBs available so we shoehorned players like Colback into LB. It's like Darlow being injured and us having no other goalkeepers, so playing Gayle in goal and then comparing that we collect more points with Darlow. Dummett is a shit LB, Championship standard - but he's not the biggest priority in the summer. In an ideal world I'd replace him, but there are other areas that need looking at first. It's not like that at all Exaggerated point due to the important of each position, but it's the same situation. Players are good in the position that they play, put them somewhere where they dont play and you're bound to be a worse team. It's pointless then pointing that out as some sort of weird fact that Dummett is anything other than a shit footballer.
NoU
None of this feels real to me untill we get a strong enough link, for it to get its own thread. I really can't wait for that thread
Guest firetotheworks
That's just not true Dummett has never played a lot at centre back for the first team. Aye, I think I've remembered more occasions than actually happened, and they were in 14/15, but I just counted 8 matches where he played centre back before I questioned what I was doing with my life. I've never liked him at left back in the Premier League though, that's the main point.

Budgie Smuggler
I just don't think I can take another season of receive the ball -> weird 7 year old style shuffle -> punt up the line This. You can't continually give the ball away in the PL as it will take a hell of a lot longer to get it back than someone punting it straight back to us in the Championship. STM
Can't say I've ever noticed Dummett being too sloppy in possession, he just can't do anything remotely interesting with it. He's a good defender though. I suspect there is alot of people who made their mind up about Dummett years ago and are sticking to their opinion regardless of what he actually does on the pitch. Thankfully, Rafa knows what he's doing. I think he will be our first choice left back again next year.

Gaining traction? It's been running since the season ended with regards to Semedo, i definitely think we are interested in him as there's been far too many links to ignore. Carvalho on the other hand i'm not so sure about.
taxfree
http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/15317077.Newcastle__Rafael_Benitez_confirms_Pepe_Reina_interest___and_prepares_for_major_goalkeeping_overhaul/ Benitez is keen to make Reina his number one goalkeeper next season, and will hope to pull off a deal for around £4m, with the veteran about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal at Napoli. “I have a great personal relationship with Reina,” said Benitez, who has been told he can spend around £80m this summer. “He’s a great goalkeeper. “Pepe is a great player, but above all, a leader in the dressing room. We missed him at Napoli in the year he went to Bayern Munich – he can make a difference both on and off the pitch. “Would I take him to Newcastle if he left? I respect Napoli, as that’s where he is, and our club has a lot of goalkeepers who are doing well. We need to be calm, we’ll talk to the club and decide on our targets.”
