TBH any new young left sided signing would be going some to look better than Rolando has pre-season.

He looks stronger and better than ever. If he stays fit this could be his time.

Every pre season of Aarons ever.

Difficult to disagree with that..... but he just looks different this time, fitter, stronger, hungrier. Hopefully more resilient. Here's hoping anyway  :)

Newcastle United are looking to conclude a clutch of outgoing deals to slash their wage bill in order to bring in a new striker.

Rafa Benitez is working around the clock to get a deal for a goalscorer done in time for the encounter with Tottenham Hotspur on August 13.

United are looking closely at their options with Lucas Pérez identified as a possible target along with Liverpool’s Danny Ings while Diego Rolan is holding out for a move to Tyneside after snubbing Fulham’s initial approach for his services.

Club officials spent the weekend trying to pave the way for Benitez to bring in summer signing number six and the former Real Madrid boss has made his plans clear to the Toon board.

Benitez knows he is working with limited resources and with £31.3million spent already, a large chunk of his summer budget has already been accounted for.

But Benitez, who has a hands on role with transfers compared to former bosses like Alan Pardew and Steve McClaren, knows that Newcastle can increase their chances of raising more funds by moving on several unwanted squad members.

Massadio Haidara is close to the exit door with a move to St Etienne possible in the coming days while Emmanuel Riviere has been offered to clubs in Ligue 1, La Liga and the Chinese Super League.

United are willing to listen to offers for Tim Krul and Karl Darlow, while Grant Hanley has been offered to Birmingham City.

Benitez told the Chronicle: “We continue working. You know what my idea is in this window, it has been a little bit crazy.

“We have to just keep going. The main thing is to try to find the balance between those going out and those coming in.”

Andreas Samaris has been linked with Newcastle United this summer but reports suggest that Everton are ready to bid

Benitez also offered a response to strong reports from Greece and Portugal that Andreas Samaris was close to a move to United.

He said: “No, it’s one of the names that has been there for a while, but nothing at the minute.”
