Infinitely Content
I feel what is more worrying is Gayle is both mentally and physically hamstrung, yet still gets picked ahead of our local Serb. Are we gonna be stuck with both, not able to raise interest due to an injury and a lack of trust, respectively? There'll be plenty of teams willing to take Mitrovic or Gayle. Would personally rather keep Mitrovic though.
jdckelly
He won't be ahead of Mitrovic now. He'll be out for a while, most likely. If Mitrovic doesn't get suspended he'll stay in the 18. thats a big if
Theregulars
TBH I feel bad for him, really thought he could have have been a hero for us.
Altamullan
What on earth is going on with Dwight? Is it now just a lack of match fitness plus self-belief?
Altamullan
I’m not heartbroken. He earns plenty of money regardless. Heartbreaking, right. Why would you not feel for someone if their short career is shortened further? Oh! Because they get paid a lot of money. Makes sense if you’re bitter or jealous, but doesn’t make sense if you have any empathy for someone who has always been a footballer, has had exceptional talent, has done great things for your club, and may be facing the horror of not being able to use his talent; be let down by his body. It is/would be tragic for the lad.
Lush Vlad
I think ‘heart broken’ is a bit strong. There is devastating news around the world that you hear about on an hourly basis. A pro footballer struggling with an injury and for a bit of form isn’t really heart breaking TBH
Stottie
I've always thought Gayle was good enough for the PL but I don't know if he can recover from that injury last season. fwiw, here's some great analysis about how strikers at promoted clubs fare in the next season. It's very rare for them to thrive, with Andy Carroll being the best example. Based on 32 players, the calculated drop in goals is 40%, which would make Gayle still useful in the PL if he can get fit. https://experimental361.com/2017/07/15/how-do-goalscorers-fare-after-their-team-is-promoted/
AyeDubbleYoo
He’s just unfit isn’t he? Don’t think we need loads of analysis, the guy can’t run.
Dokko
He’s just unfit isn’t he? Don’t think we need loads of analysis, the guy can’t run. Yup. He's just been unlucky in 2017 with injuries and because of it has lost confidence in his body. Very similar to Sturridge. Could get over it next time he returns, could plague him for years but its not uncommon and he certainly isn't finished. Not yet, anyway. More worrying for him is that he doesn't fit Rafa's style, Joselu does. Wonder if Gayle could drop back in to the 10 role or go out wide while he regains fitness and form? mighty__mag
He bulked up in the summer, this has contributed to him slowing down. Plus the levels of fitness th CBs and fullbacks in the premiership are at is another level. Most have no fat on them whatsoever. As a striker in this league you are really up against it. Dinho lad
Money plus Origi on loan would have been a good deal. Shame.
TRon
I thought he did OK when came on. Shows what a no nowt nonce I am. I thought he looked okay as well, quite surprised to see him getting slated in the match thread. certainly better than recent games.
Varadi
He was clearly cattled not long after coming on like - calf problem apparently: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dwight-gayle-suffers-yet-more-13766991
Hanshithispantz
To my unqualified eye it just seems like he needs to be completely removed from the first team for a while to build up his fitness and confidence. The cameos just seem to be holding him back.
Guest milburn990
What he and Joselu have now proven is that Mitro surely should be given a chance. i dont think any of them should be given the number 9 shirt, at this level they are all lacking. Oh for the days of Sir Les and Shearer.......we were spoilt for choice then. I'm sure Rafa will try and solve this problem when money becomes available.....big money is needed here. tinoasprilla
I thought Joselu generally did ok yesterday and held ball up well. Id much rather see Mitrovic get a chance though and a sustained run in the team. Otherwise we might as well flog him

Leek
I think he just doesnt suit us now as a team. Holding the ball up, making it stick or creating opportunities to win a 2nd ball seem more important at the moment plus we arent controlling games like we did. Obviously he isnt fit but I think hes still a good option for us and has goals in him at this level.

Figures 1-0 Football
Suddenly the desire to flog him in the summer doesn’t look all that weird.
Kanj
Correct me if I'm wrong, but we countered with him and he had the ball in the corner, lost the ball, they countered and then ended up getting the penalty? no?
Cronky
He looks a bit overweight to me. Maybe he's not able to train properly due to concerns over his hamstrings.
Guest
Surely wouldn't be on the bench in that case? Was like we went to 10 men after Joselu went off.
