I don't get why you'd give Murphy and Gayle deals when you're planning to keep Bruce too. He's actively avoided playing them even when they're the logical choice.

Carroll is after a year extension too.

We don't play him as it is, baffling extension whatever the club situation. Well if Bruce is staying like.

Spot on. Still can’t believe what other professional outfit would be dishing out 3 year contracts to 30+ year old bench fodder

He might not want to stay, he might just want to secure 3 years of salary in case he can't get a move or gets injured before the transfer window.

He's 30. Bad injury record. It's a pandemic. This secures him a high-end Champo or low-end PL contract until he's 34.

Probably would've made a profit on him, or at least got our money back, a couple of years ago. Bet we'll see even £5m by the time he does eventually go (in the event he doesn't see out his contract, which is obviously very possible.

He didn't want to go to the teams who showed interest. So we rewarded him with another contract.

Is that true? I feel like if we'd wanted to get rid of him, we would have done.

He turned down a move to West Brom in 2019, due to wage demands iirc. £15m fee reportedly.

Horrible first half, missed a couple of sittings and a couple of terrible passes that could have left us 1v1 with the keeper.

Anonymous 2nd half, think he only touched the ball when he mis-hit it towards Joelinton.

Us topping up 20 grand a week for two years is only a two million hit though. With a Champo contract you can add massive promotion bonuses, because if you achieve it you'll be able to pay them. And fifteen plus a season strikers are the easiest way to go up.

Always thought that at this level he does decent stuff in build ups and outside the box but when it comes to when it actually matters, like finishing or that rancid attempt at a pass, he's just not good enough.

Well, provided he stays fit, could well turn out to be a shrewd move to give him that contract. Doubt we'd get much of a fee for him now anywyay.

I thought he was on more than that. He got his teeth knocked out a few years back for flapping his gums about how much he earns.

Sorry if unclear, but what I meant was when we had a marketable asset with him, we should have topped up his wages at his new club to let us cash in on the selling fee. And then bought a Prem level player, of course.

We should not have let the deal fall through and become stuck with him because he wanted twenty or thirty grand more than WBA or someone else wanted to pay. That sounds like a solvable problem.

Only logic to me is that he's a 20-25 goal a season Championship player (if he stays fit) so its a relatively low wage gamble in case we go down, should have been for only 2 years though not 3.
