Stottie
I think he's good enough to play in the Premiership, his movement and finishing are fine, but that's only when he's fit. Don't put your eggs in one basket etc. etc.
Sean
I think he's good enough to play in the Premiership, his movement and finishing are fine, but that's only when he's fit. Don't put your eggs in one basket etc. etc. I think this as well. He also needs good service as he's not really the type who can create something for himself. Really worrying if he doesn't trust his body though as he might as well be injured if so.
Guest Howaythetoon
Seeing how the games are panning out I think Gayle will cut a forlorn figure up front on his own as he doesnt have that all round game needed. So I think unless we play two up front, he may serve us better from the bench as he did at Palace. If someone offered us say 15-20m for him I'd be tempted in order to raise funds towards a much better all-rounder. I like him and he's clearly a goalscorer, but the way we are set up now and how games are panning out, I don't think he has enough in his locker to impact a game from the start. He will have to do a lot of running, a lot of donkey work, and that's not really his game. That unless Rafa's tactics change. Gayle desperately needs a playmaker behind him or to be partnered up top to be truly effective from the start in this division IMO.
loki679
Just based on yesterday i'd start Joselu over Gayle, he seemed to bring a lot more to our play.
DJ_NUFC
Goodness me. If only people showed as much faith in this guy as they do in Mitro and now Joselu after 3 fucking games. People, we need a squad, and him having decent competition is a positive thing, instead people are already talking about flogging him or him not being cut out for the Prem. His record is better than both our other options, FFS. The only question mark is his fitness and the psychological impact of all the injuries. Zero
I don't think we need to flog him. He is more than capable to be an impact sub and occasionally lead our line. The problem is whether Gayle is willing to play in this role. He joined us because he wants to start.
tinoasprilla
if we could get 15 to 20 million and Benitez is allowed all the money to spend id definitely sell him. His fitness throughout his career has been poor
Tiresias
Fucks sake, flog our only reliable finisher? (Joselu may be but time will tell) I agree that other forwards add more to our play, he is limited especially for this division but he will still score if given a chance, unlike Mitrovic who can't hit a barn door sometimes. I could understand if a proven reliable goalscorer was coming in but everyone we sign is a gamble at the moment.
tinoasprilla
am i right that he haa scored 6 league goals since the turn of the year. Thats not reliable in my eyes add to the fact he cant hold the ball whats he offer
joeyt
He's not started very often this year mind. 23 goals in 32 games is still canny
LoveItIfWeBeatU
Some people constantly defend Mitro but write off Gayle? When it comes to converting chances I back Gayle over Mitro any day. Maybe if Gayle starts doing stupid fouls he'll get more fan support here?
Guest Howaythetoon
Gayle is not a proven goalscorer, in the Championship yes and that was for one season only. He will score goals I'm sure because he's a good finisher with an instinct for scoring. But I think he would struggle to score goals starting up top by himself with the way we now play and how the games are panning out. Unless that is we put in a playmaker behind him or get him a partner up top.
Minhosa
He's been missing something since the turn of the year. Seems to have lost belief and/or confidence in his body. If push came to shove, I'd sell him.

You need to give it a rest with your Mitrovic agenda like.

LoveItIfWeBeatU
Rumours of possibly selling Gayle in the media today. We'd have to have someone lined up to do that. Strange to sell him. He's got an issue in believing himself that he's fully recovered from his hamstring injury. Don't see how he can pass a medical if he doesn't trust his own body. Guest chopey
Gayle's constant injures are a bit of a pain
George Bailey
Of all our strikers I never expected that he would be one of the possible ones we sold or would consider selling (barring a ridiculous offer). If he is to go then it has to mean an upgrade. To sell him without any plan for an immediate replacement that offers something more would be stupid in the extreme. That would effectively leave us with Mitrovic, Joselu and Perez? Armstrong away till January I assume... We have to have someone in the pipeline to even be considering it. Altamullan
Gayle would only go for what was perceived to be a significant upgrade/'guaranteed' starter (some young would be superstar on loan... I'll have Rashford please ).

HaydnNUFC
David Kelly Had same thought. Jovetic/Joselu new Beardsley/Cole. We lost our first 2 in 1993/94 as well, including an opening day defeat to Spurs at home. We're finishing 3rd.
Teasy
Some people constantly defend Mitro but write off Gayle? When it comes to converting chances I back Gayle over Mitro any day. Maybe if Gayle starts doing stupid fouls he'll get more fan support here? More to do with the fact that having him up top alone means we struggle to keep the ball and build up any momentum. If he doesn't convert the one or two chances he gets per game he offers very little.
