Mr Logic
Jacob Murphy admits he is living the dream with Newcastle United - but is now fully focused on proving himself as a top player with the St James’ Park faithful. The £10million winger is braced for his Toon debut against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend and can’t wait to play in front of a full house in the Premier League opener. After showing glimpses of what he can do on the big stage, boyhood United fan Murphy is hungry for more and told the Chronicle: “It was beautiful to get out there on Sunday. “It was pretty packed out for just a pre-season friendly with around 30,000 there. They all made me feel really welcome but it was a pleasure to see so many faces out there. To walk out as an actual player at the club was a really nice feeling. The pitch is lovely and it’s a nice stadium, it’s just magnificent. I’m looking forward to making many more appearances here.” Newcastle lost just once in six games in pre-season and although the mood on Tyneside has been fraught due to the lack of transfer activity, Murphy says that the atmosphere in the camp is excellent. “Everything is knitting together well now and the boys now know what the manager is looking for. We saw against Hellas Verona that it was a strong enough performance and it’s all clicking. Hopefully it all comes good for the season. Everybody is getting on really well. It’s really close knit. For the new lads coming in, we have settled in really well. Hopefully, we can take that positive feeling out on to the pitch.” Newcastle face a tough opening contest against Spurs at St James’ on Sunday and even though the Magpies have a good record against the Londoners, the odds are against Rafa Benitez’s side. “We will be ready for the fixture, and it’s a massive one for us. We are just looking forward to the season and proving our worth in the Premier League. They will be one of the teams that are going for the title. It’s a chance for us to see how far we’ve come when we face them. I am more than sure we will get a positive result. He let us know how he wants things done. The boys have taken that on board. They showed it in the friendly with Hellas Verona so now we want more of the same.” Murphy captured the hearts of the supporters when family pictures emerged of him wearing his first Newcastle kit as a young child coincided with talk he was on his way to Tyneside. After settling in on Tyneside, he said: “People here are football mad. You go out for something to eat and there are Newcastle pictures everywhere. I know what it means to the fans and I just want to keep working hard. The people here are very friendly and they’re really nice people. Even outside of football they have made me feel welcome in the city. We will need these supporters throughout the season. It is going to be a massive season for us. They will get behind us and push us to greater things.”

LFEE
Apparently got "What a waste of money" chanted at him. We've got great fans. Just what people in the corner are saying, no idea if it happened. The school choir in the strawberry corner DID sing it but not for very long. It was poor form but also nothing to get worked up about. In defence of the kids they never stopped all 120mins.
Amir_9
Not nice but I hope he's wise enough to not take note of it. If he has the right mentality, he would know the amount he gets paid to do what he does is a lot and should brush it off quickly (if at all) and aim to prove himself. HaydnNUFC
Just what people in the corner are saying, no idea if it happened. Didn't happen. He showed he's got dribbling skills and pace but needs to work on his end product. Not his fault tonight.

U2
This transfer reeks of the old system. I'll be dissapointed if it turns out that Rafa was the main thrust behind it.
