xLiaaamx
He didn't do his defensive work properly, got injured, never got back in the team, and has now seemingly gave up already and wants to go home. Struggling to be bothered. Don't think he's particularly special.
Andy
While he had a couple of games where he looked like he could be a real player, he had more games where he didn't really offer much at all, and it seems like his heart isn't particularly in it. Not fussed really
Teasy
I may be mixing up transfer fees here, but didn't we pay ~£12.5m (loan and transfer fee) for him? Why would we accept a release clause lower than what we paid? It was around £9m total as far as I remember.
Rich
Funny that this becomes public knowledge all of a sudden. Won't be too sad to see him go, given the way the season turned out for him. Still think he'll be a player mind.
Skeletor
All of our players probably have release clauses. Bought to sell.
Guest firetotheworks
Thank fuck the World Cup's protecting me from the usual embarrassing amateurish bullshit from NUFC.
Ikon
Looks like Sociedad is where he's going, apparently he has agreed to join them. Thank god we've spent time monitoring players so that we can get them all over the line.
LoveItIfWeBeatU
All of our players probably have release clauses. Bought to sell. Not in NUFC's interest to put in a release clause (especially one which is only a small profit on the fee paid). The Mike Ashley model is to buy young players who will hopefully appreciate in value then sell them for a big profit. Release clauses will be at the insistence of the players and their advisors. danny
He looked good to start with but if he dosent want to be here then fuck him
Tooj
If he wanted that clause inserted then he never really had any intention of sticking around.
Mr Logic
Seem to recall Rafa knew his father and their connection went way back. In fact isn't his dad one of his advisors rather than just agents? I guess the lad is hungry for first team football and Rafa couldn't guarantee it, I can't say I blame any talented youngster for wanting more playing time but working with Rafa for a few years may have served him better in the long term. We shall see, suspect we will see him playing for Spain at some point in his career.
duo
When he was on song this lad was class - he's got quality no doubt about that. I defo want him to stay - It was Mo's form at the end of the season that kept him out rather than his poor form.
Dave
Really odd all this, hope we get a semblance of an explanation if he does go.
mrmojorisin75
If he wanted that clause inserted then he never really had any intention of sticking around. Didn't settle or get enough time on the pitch in Germany so probably wanted insurance in case it happened again...

Pata
Absolutely pointless to even sign him permanently if the release clause is peanuts.
loki679
Absolutely pointless to even sign him permanently if the release clause is peanuts. Aye, seems a bit silly accepting a release clause for little more than we paid for him.
Zero
That simply shows how desperate Rafa was last summer to get him.
Kanj
Will miss him as i think he's got it all to be a fantastic player, but best of luck to him if he does decide to go and thank fuck it's not to another PL club. Frustrating that he doesn't want to stay and develop here, but hopefully we'll use the funds ()
Hhtoon
Not that a bad deal. If he'd nailed down a place in the team and was happy playing then you offer a new contract with the clause removed or a greater release value.
STM
If giving him a release clause was the only way of getting him, I can sort of understand. In a bizarre way, I'm glad he didn't rekindle his early form as if I'd be gutted at losing him for this price. I'm going to be more angry when we dont replace him. Shearergol
Looking forward to replacing him with Gary Gardner.
LoveItIfWeBeatU
Will these Spanish clubs be able to afford the circa £10m release clause? They're not Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid. We've not sold Sels or Mbemba yet due to the interested clubs not being able to match the very modest transfer fees. £10m is peanuts to Premiership clubs. Not to a lot of foreign clubs.
