Other clubs' transfers

Apparently he's on about £110k and Madrid want him to take a paycut to stay.

He's had his best season in years - no coincidence it's happened in the year his contract is up for renewal IMO.

It feels like another Coutinho situation in terms of hunger for Villa IMO. He's playing at his peak because he wants to stay at the biggest club in the world. If he joins Villa I expect his performances will drop.

Yeah, I feel this kind of deal represents quite a bit of risk, Digne, Coutinho and then this lad will all be on canny wedges.

Once again, I don't know if people are just ignoring the article by continuely referencing summer transfers.

Ignoring the summer window and pointing to the winter window in isolation is farcical. The reason you didn’t spend in January is Ten Hag spunked it all up the wall in the summer with the second highest net spend in the league.

Further to that city didn’t spent in January and won the league while getting to the same number of finals.

10 million signing on fee was rumoured a few weeks back as well

I mean it’s basically the transfer fee for the player so it doesn’t matter so much.

Kudos to the Villa owners though, they aren’t shy to invest.

Aye, be a cracking signing under Emery imo.

Risky but he’s had a good season for Real Madrid; been lazy or inconsistent for years after he was touted as being the next big thing. Another in the Spanish production line of mercurial, technically gifted cam-wingers with suspect athleticism/ work-rate.

He’ll do well for Villa but he screams mercenary to me, like.

If I, the kid with every toy, get £211 for my birthday and spend it all at once, do I:

1) have a point when I mention how it's not fair that I didn't get any Christmas money and my friend, Oliver, got £123 for his birthday and £45 at Christmas?

Or do I:

2) have no argument whatsoever and should have spent that money on maths lessons?

The ACL did in his athleticism tbf. He had a bit more dynamism and hunger to his game prior to that.

Aye, we're not City. We finished 6th last year and got a new manager in. City won the league and kept Pep. City lost 3 first team players in the summer and signed 3. We lost 7 first team players and signed 5. Pretty ridiculous to try and compare.

By "spunked it up the wall" do you mean make several top class signings by the way? Strange language.

The reason we didn't spend in January is because the Glazer's didn't want to spend. Simple as. Do better.

I was referring to the Ten Haag quote about not investing like rivals.

You're taking it out of context though by referencing Martinez and Antony. That isn't what he said.

Whether we spent £4m or £40m more than our rivals in the summer isn't relevant. The team was a mess and investment was needed. When the manager and team was exceeding expectations but we were crying out for a striker, a club like Manchester United (and a fair other amount of clubs in the league as well, Newcastle included) should be able to go out and buy a competent striker. People forget we lost Ronaldo midseason. We got laughed at when Arnatovic was touted as a replacement, and then we ended up going and getting someone even worse. It was Igahlo all over again. We're better than that, and that's not arrogant. The majority of the league is better than that.

Arsenal were exceeding expectations but needed rotation options and went and bolstered the squad. Liverpool were falling behind but went and signed Gakpo. Newcastle exceeding expectations and bolstered the squad with Gordon. I don't understand why people can't grasp how embarassing the Weghorst signing actually was. Bloody Wolves and West Ham went out and signed better strikers in January than we did.

Maybe Ten Hag should have managed Ronaldo better, or got shot of him last summer instead? You spent a fortune (again), more than anyone bar Chelsea, he shouldn't see it as some devine right to be able to spend every single window. You spent comfortably the second most last season.

Maybe this summer not go and blow £80-90m on a winger when you're fairly well stacked in that area?

Yes, it's truly a tragic tale of the haves (Man City) and have nots (Man United)

Your attempts at justifying any of this are so pathetic man, not only do you not have an argument, but you're not even attempting to make one. Resorting to telling people who've had Mike Ashley owning their football club for 14 years to "do better" and calling them dumb isn't an argument, you probably know that, but as always you haven't got the slightest bit of humility or awareness of anything beyond being a Man United fan.

Boohoo, you spent 211m in the summer and nothing in January. Our hearts bleed. Citing us signing Gordon, bringing our total for the summer and January to 43m less than yours in the summer is just a suicidal point to be making man, and you're calling me dumb and telling people to do better.

Have you ever considered that it might be you that needs to do better? That maybe the issues at Man United aren't exclusively on your own intensely blinkered and biased terms and that other views aren't automatically wrong? Or that beyond all that, maybe we'd all like the chance to talk about Man United like we do with other clubs, without it turning into yet another conversation about you? It would actually be good to talk about it like we all do with Brummie, Neil, lfc, leffe and others, but because it's never far away from turning into this tired WUMery there's never any point.

For England I think Rice playing in Germany will be a blessing for our future hopes.

Would prefer him here racking up 500 games in the next 10-12 years, captaining us and England to multiple trophies.

Isn't the reason you didn't spend a load on a striker in January as there'd have been none really available and you are clearly going to be going for Kane or someone similar in the summer?

We desperately needed at least CM and couldn't get one. We ended up actually getting rid of Shelvey and leaving ourselves even shorter in that position. That's just how January windows can go. It's daft to take only January transfers in isolation and ignore the windows that come either side of it.

I have very little time for you unlike the others I responded to, but I will say that I never called you dumb and I think you're quite the opposite of that, which sadly makes everything you say that much worse. I said your analogy was dumb, which it was. You're one of a small number of people on here that are so blinded by bitterness and hatred of Man United that your posts about us are filled with contempt. The same four or five posters like the same anti Man United comments every time.

Also, any time anyone tries to have a go at me on here the majority of posters jump to my defence and tend to speak quite highly of me. That's not to say I don't have my moments of seeing red and/or responding with utter guff, but I'm aware of that unlike you. Mods and admins will see posts I've deleted because I feel like I'm being too harsh, coming across as too arrogant or just being a plain idiot.

99% of the time I never reply to you directly. Any posts of mine you reply to are filled with derison and sarcasm like your stupid analogy above. You act like I'm arrogant about my club but it's not true. On the day of the league cup final I asked Beren to ban me for 24 hours because I didn't want my presence rubbing anyone up the wrong way on what was such a monumental occasion for your club. Those aren't the actions of someone who's only intention to is to wind people up.

You also need to have more self awareness when you say I have no humility. You have a history of being disliked on this forum. So much so that when you constantly replied to my posts having a go at me I used to receive multiple PM's about how much you bothered other posters, so don't try and have a go at my character because you disagree with what I say. I've been on this forum for 13 years and had hundreds of conversations about Man United with zero issues. The fact you and I can't do that is not my problem but yours.

You're best putting me on ignore. It's very rare you have been able to reply to my posts with any sort of respect. It's never going to change.

He managed him perfectly. He had to go, but that doesn't mean he didn't need replaced.

We need two strikers realistically. Nobody was expecting us to go and spend £90m on someone. But Weghorst? Tried to find positives at the time and he worked his arse off but he's so poor. Danny Ings would have been twice the signing.
