joeyt Posted Sunday at 13:09 Share Posted Sunday at 13:09 Not a dig at you Ikon, just feel there's a prevalence now for people wanting relatively unknown players because they're deemed more exciting than players we see in the Prem week in/week out Feels very FM-esque

Used to be the same when I was younger and was CM/FM obsessed and so were my mates. It also helped that the PL wasn’t Europe’s top division at that point, meaning that generally an expensive player from abroad was going to be a likely hit. This is no longer the case, as many clubs (especially Man Utd) can attest to.

Some might have done so, not many from what I’ve noticed. Have you noted all this down so you know it’s the same people who have praised every other clubs target and called ours shit? You could be right to a degree tbf. I have been excited about many of our targets and links. But if I don’t rate someone like DCL or Elanga too much then I’m gonna say it. When it comes to other clubs I’ll do the same. I’ve praised some signings and I’ve laughed at some. It’s not exactly uncommon is it? In this particular case I said he “could” be a class signing for them. I’m not saying that he absolutely will be. We’ve been linked to him as well. And if I remember correctly then I said I’d be excited about him despite never seeing him play. Not sure if on here or some other place but yeah. You might be right in some cases. But it’s also difficult to tell who exactly has said exactly what. I for one am very excited about JP. I think he would be perfect even if we might have to pay a bit too much. Sometimes it’s just right to “buy it nice or buy it twice”. I’m like that in real life myself. andyc35i Posted Sunday at 13:27 Share Posted Sunday at 13:27 It feels like they have unlimited funds from getting so many of these ‘risk’ signings right in the pass. They sell Joao Pedro for £60 and it’s balanced

The prem players we bought were great also but it seems we can buy well from overseas so why not get excited if the club looks at them

Sibierski Posted Sunday at 13:39 Share Posted Sunday at 13:39 Easy to forget that Brentford have dropped near £80m on Thiago, Carvallho, Van den berg. Shifting to Brighton recent model, where the buys are needing to be £20m-£35m mark and it makes the deals if they don’t work out more costly long term. Disco Posted Sunday at 13:42 Share Posted Sunday at 13:42 Sancho played a fair bit last season and he’s effectively replacing him and getting a pay rise plus he was there as a kid. We have seen them and I at least think they are nothing special. Is it wise to spend 60 million or something on Elanga? Is he kind of player that takes the next step here? Does Pedro break into Brazil team here and got 10-20 goals a season? Greek lad is a lottery ticket, but Brighton are pretty good with these picks

Not really. Also he isn’t just some random teenager. If a club signs a player with massive potential then I don’t think it’s weird to say that he could be a class signing (long term). It doesn’t mean that he will. Don’t see why it’s a big deal! You’re making something out of nothing here. Edited Sunday at 15:14 by Ikon
Menace Posted Sunday at 15:38 Share Posted Sunday at 15:38 Brighton have got it more right than wrong with their signings to be honest. I'd assume they've done their research and scouting before dropping £30M on a "random teenager"
