Top 6 privilege really. Maybe something we could do with a Saudi loan?

Someone much better will want to play frequently. Even at Real Madrid.

We could do with this profile at CM or even upfront. Get Doucoure in as back-up, get Miley out on loan.

Nah, the wages are a dealbreaker. He was on 130k at Everton, and he'll want a 3-year contract too. We should be looking for a young CM.

Need to lower it so clubs can’t buy players just to loan them out. Talent should be spread throughout leagues, not a disproportionate amount of registrations held by a select few clubs.

I also think that if they can't get a work permit, they shouldn't be allowed to be registered. You shouldn't be able to loan them out abroad to get around that. It's almost tantamount to actual ownership of a human, forcing them to work somewhere else.

Brentford have always made bank on their prized assets; it's their whole thing. Maupay, Benrahma, Watkins, Raya, Toney and now Mbeumo, Flekken, Norgaard and even Frank.

At this point they're probably even more comfortable with the idea that their model might lead to ebbs and flows, when it's relatively easy to retain your place in the PL. Does seem particularly risky going with a rookie manager, mind.

Bookmark this for when Liverpool win the league by 30 points but I really think they are going to (relatively) bomb next year as age and the weight of all the cash in his pockets catches up with Salah. Fighting it out in the 4th - 7th group rather than fighting with City for second place (behind us of course!)

Not likely, I can still see them spending another 100million+ this summer

Do Arsenal really need another CB? Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior and then Calafiori, Timber, White and Tomiyasu have all played a lot of CB too during their careers.

Arteta loves a defender.

Broke this morning out of the blue through Ornstein and wrapped up already. Got to admit I'm jealous (of the speed, and tbf he's a good player and that's a good price)

This is the type of ‘a body’ transfer I’ve been referring too.  Probably 3rd choice in the role but an important squad position.  Happy to sit on the bench for extended periods of time if needed.

Yeah, but are we in a position to drop £15m on that kind of player, with the likelihood of them having very little resale value?

It’s €11m.

To requalify for the CL we need a fully competent good PL level  CM sitting on the bench when we play a 433 with everyone fit.

Currently we do not have that imo. And neither does Howe considering the formation changes.

Those transfers are more about the wages. Players moving at that age are on for final big deal, and we're still not in a position where we can have our depth be on circa £100k+, where after one season they're surplus to requirements and can ride out their wages for next 2-3 seasons.

Sky reporting it’s £10m + £5m.

Regardless, it’s still a fee they won’t see much direct financial return on.

I’m not disputing the advantages of signings like this, and this one in particular seems very sensible for Arsenal. But where we are financially means we can’t cover every base that we probably need to. We have to decide where we’re prepared to leave ourselves potentially short.
