Other clubs' transfers

Could definitely see that

Silva has a bit of a reputation now for if not ‘turning around’ players who’ve lost their way a bit at top clubs but eking bits out of them that all count towards their continued mid table position.

Iwobi, Smith-Rowe, Perreira, Leno…

Pretty rapid decline, like

Tbf he’s made ~650 appearances between club and country. Been playing senior football since he was 17.

If he were 35 we’d be patting him on the back for putting in a shift like that.

Compared to them getting Rashford and Asensio last January, there's a slight relief that Villa are down to Abraham and Douglas Luiz this time.

In general, I'm quite jealous of them, but this season hasn't provided much opportunity to schadenfreude.

Why are you jealous of them? One of the most annoying viewpoints on this forum, and that's a crowded field.

Only thing to be ‘jealous’ of Villa is Emery able to hold together a poor transfer strategy. Never have and never will get on board with their approach. It’s waiting to blow up but Emery is somehow holding it together. Probably can make an argument it’s not even him, it’s scoring bangers from distance that’s papering over the issues there.

Them getting UCL will be annoying because it’s the opportunity to reset and take a different approach with funds, because route they’re on is very short term and ready to end in tears.

Very surprised what's happened with Sterling, I know he's small so any decline in strength and explosiveness might hit him hard. But still he was a really top player for a while.

Guess he's been in a gilded cage at Chelsea but fair play if he decides to take a big pay cut to play.

Sterling looked more finished than Mr Finished from Finished Town when he came on for Arsenal in the 2nd leg last year

Totally agree! I was surprised just how poor he looked everytime I saw him for Arsenal

Isn't there some stat around players who started playing regular first team football really young often being finished by their early 30s (e.g., Rooney). Think I read something looking at minutes played by a certain age and they have a huge drop off after that point. Looks like Sterling can be added to that list

I think in general most wingers/wide forwards who start playing young drop off after 30. A lot of their key attributes are physical.

Well apart from genetic freaks like cronaldo.
