Rafa Benítez (now unemployed)

Recommended Posts

Got sick of the Liverpool talk fairly quickly and scrolled along the bottom to see what they ended up talking about and just turned it off. Love Rafa but I'm losing interest in that Overlap show now, all they do is talk about the same teams and subjects every time. I look around the table and you've got Keane who hates us, Scott whos a mackem and Carragher who thinks we're gonna finish like 9th or 10th this year so its no wonder we hardly ever come up.

Absolutely crazy they never even asked a single thing about Newcastle. Ridiculous.

No shock. I watch these and quite enjoy them as far as they go but their lack of coverage and respect for us is pretty unbelievable. They had us losing to Southampton at the weekend, probably got a 30 second mention after 20+ minutes talking about the cartel 6 that episode. Also, WTF is Jill Scott bringing to these things anyway? I stuck this on and when I saw her wander in mumbling in that god awful accent I wanted to turn it straight off.

Thought Rafa looked great, but with my black and white glasses on, what a missed opportunity. They could even have just spent a few minutes on Newcastle and picked his brain on Eddie and how he thinks he's doing and a nice tactical breakdown from one of the smartest analytical minds. Nah let's just talk about Liverpool and the other cartel cunts endlessly. Pity.

I said this to my Liverpool supporting mate about stick to football & the overlap that’s it’s all Man Utd & Liverpool then they got Gordon & Howe on 2 weeks in a row [emoji38]

The episodes with Neville interviewing someone are good, the Stick To Football stuff is basically those guys talking about their old clubs every episode.

I watched it and yes it was mostly about Liverpool, but I still enjoyed it. Rafa got to tell his side of the story over selling Xabi Alonso. They went in to detail iver certain tactical decisions and it’s always great listening to Rafa talk about tactics.

Whilst I was disappointed there was no mention of us I still enjoyed it

I love listening to the bloke, he was class for us and also he played his part in the takeover which should never be forgotten

Bonded even more with the bloke over being the victim in a tight title race of dodgy refereeing decisions towards Manchester United (also against Spurs), Ferguson being a c*nt and unfavourable fixture arrangements.

Does he talk about Newcastle at all?

Not even eluded to, it's a bit strange. Carra seems to use it all as a bit of a therapy session tbh. Not sure he got anything out of it either, Rafa tends to not stick to one subject and doesn't answer much.

There wasn’t a chance he’d have been allowed to talk about us on the overlap. The whole thing is sky 6 propaganda.

If Rafa mentions Newcastle he invariably waxes lyrical about the fans and the potential of the club - imagine Keane during such converse, or any of the others for that matter. Carragher says he likes us but he’s desperate for our revival to come to a halt. See his ludicrous comments regarding a ban on us signing a Tonali replacement.

I was surprised with how all over the place his conversations went

I just assumed he would be very methodical and structured in his answers but he's all over the shop

I think Rafa takes the long road round to answers, but because Neville and Carragher were so invested they kept taking him up on parts of the story that moved it further from the answer. Rafa with a more patient audience gets more of an answer because Rafa can get there in the end.

Just started watching it; infuriating how Carragher is interrupting him from the off.

Guy was in Norway last week, told the press that if he's still available when Solbakken leaves the manager hot seat after the WC 2026 qualifiers, he wants the job. If it became available before that, he wants the job. Said that the current crop of players in the Norwegian first team picture was a smorgasbord of talent that he'd love to work with.

Of course the guy's not going to tell the press "fuck no I wouldn't touch the Norway job with a five foot pole" when pushed on the subject, but the straight up "yes, I want that job" answer instead of the usual "maybe, who knows? football is a funny old game!" politician answer to wave away those type of questions felt like him actually meaning it when he said it  Especially as he followed it up immediately by listing a shitload of Norwegian players, some not even established first team members of the national team, U21-players, describing how he'd utilize them with Ødegaard and Haaland

tl;dr - I think Rafa miss managing a team
