Various: Mike Ashley in talks with Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan

Recommended Posts

Have any reliable journalists spoken yet? Seems very very quiet from the usual sources.

They'll be in the same boat as us wondering if that new company means anything.

Or maybe under a strict gagging order until a certain date? Certainly strange that none of them have said anything at all.

It does feel like the press know something like. Not one single media outlet mentioning the setup of this new limited company.

Gonna be a long day at work refreshing Twitter!!

Agreed, very strange that none of them are mentioning it

Either because they’re desperately scrambling around trying to find out or because it’s so irrelevant it’s not even worth mentioning.

Silence makes me think it’s the first option though.

Absolutely, putting 2+2 together, it looks as though they're being held back.

I think it will be Sky Sports and it will be due to them having their noses put out of joint if the thing about the BBC getting the first interviews are true. Sky won’t be happy and might announce something before the BBC out of spite.

When we have heard the exclusive from Shearer himself on football focus and the new owners are paraded before it. Gonna be a canny day.

IF this is true i'd imagine the BBC would be her first proper interview, but you'd imagine the announcement of a sale would be beforehand so the BBC could let people know she'll be giving an interview.

I suppose so. Also with it being a FA Cup weekend I suppose it makes sense to use the BBC for your first interview.

It could well be that its sky news that breaks it, just like they did with the first bid.

Which journo will it be to start the dismissal? My money is on either Edwards or the grim Ryder.

Also, Wraith seems to be retweeting anything with a negative spin.

He's gonna be gutted if/when it actually happens, after his doom-mongering in December is (hopefully) proven wrong.

To be fair if that bloke is talking truth, the deal was done around 12 Dec, then it did take around one month from 12 Dec to 6 Jan. The story is complete.

Wonder if Rafa's transfer deadline of 20th January was aimed at Ashley selling the club rather than releasing transfer funds? Get it announced earlier in the window so we can spend some money. Maybe the deal was agreed in principle on the 12th, but Ashley is trying to hang on to it a few extra weeks for some reason? Perhaps the 20th is Staveleys deadline?

Rafa Benitez (13th Dec):

“What I would say is that if you know where you are (with the sale of the club) and what you have, it is easier for me and it is easier for our people.

“We can talk with agents, players and clubs and say, ‘We are here’ and ‘We can’, or ‘We cannot’.

“It is easier.

“You know where you are and you can go in one direction or another one. You need to know as soon as possible."

Rafa (22nd Dec):

'I have confidence that Mike Ashley will deliver what we need to stay in the Premier League before January 20 to be sure that we have time to work with the new players,' said Benitez.

'I don't know the budget that I have, so we don't know how much we can spend. It will depend on the value of the players, the players who are available or not and we may have to move players out to bring others in.

'It's really important to do that. We haven't received any offers for any of our players at this stage, but we have to do things as quickly as possible and I have the belief and the confidence in Mike Ashley that by January 15 or 20, we have to be there with everything done.'

Also, 13th Dec was when this was reported:
