He is living proof we need a new keeper with distribution.

It feels weird to say as I still love Pope and have maintained he's the least of our problems, but this recent run has turned me.

Pope's still better at pretty much everything else, but I do wonder if we'd have managed this run and the dominant performances with his distrubution, or lack thereof.

Interested to see what Howe does when Pope is fit, like. Dubs surely has to stay in the nets if we carry on like this?

If Dub's can keep the form up, don't see a problem in rotating Pope/ Dubs, depending on the style of play of the opposition and the chances we'd expect them to have.

But, doubt that sort of keeper rotation would happen at all.

The difference his distribution makes is phenomenal.

I’d be playing him in goal every week, if I knew we weren’t gonna be facing many shots.

This is the key.

Dubs has looked great but has barely had to get his kit dirty for 4 games. If we just want someone who can play a bit on goal and we won't be facing any shots, you might as well play an outfielder there. Stick Miley in nets, he could do with a bit of game time and is good with his feet.

Dubravka has shown in the last couple of years that when he needs to stop a shot, he can't. Lauding him for games where he's had almost no shots to stop is fundamentally flawed, and I doubt he'll have that luxury against Spurs who, despite being leaky at the back, are all-out going forwards. Whilst ball-playing is lovely, we need a keeper who can actually keep the ball out of the net too and I don't think Dubravka is that man.

Where has this myth come from that he's made no saves?

Fair enough he's not had loads to do, but he's made a couple of decent saves since he's come it. His sweeping 100x times better than he used to, and his distribution takes out a pressing trigger for other teams, which not only means that they can only really go off Burn for a trigger it now, it also means he can miss player out and go into a FB or someone else instead of Pope's short pass the a CB, or kick it off the pitch options.

I actually thought the Digne save was a poor one if there's such a thing.  He pushed it straight out into the danger zone.  Pope would have caught that or thrown his cap on it.

It went to the left. Pope would have left it afraid of hurting himself.

none of our keepers are good enough for a top 4 team. Pope’s been absolutely class since we signed him but he’s a shadow of his former self and his distribution is one of the poorest in the league. His injury has ruined him.

Ruined him?  Really?

The diving to the left thing is massively overplayed. He did look unnatural for a bit going to that side. But are people forgetting the top class save he made against Liverpool?

Mac Allister drilled one bottom corner and Pope got down full stretch to his left. His arm ending up in the same position as when his shoulder went against Man U.

I do think the last 5 games have highlighted how much better we would be longer term with a keeper who is comfortable on the ball. However, I still maintain it won’t be cheap to find a keeper who is as good as Pope. But can spray it about like an extra outfield player. James Trafford is certainly not that player currently and who knows if he ever will be.

If we really are hamstrung by PSR. Other areas need addressing first IMO. But in an ideal world, having a ball playing keeper would be class.

It's bizarre that he's having his best form for the club in years and undoubtedly contributed to our upturn in form (the improvement in possession/control in games has been pretty key) right at the point where he's going to leave.

I still think he's basically done as a PL keeper, and will undoubtedly return to dropping in clangers at some point, but it it does feel a weird departure point given the various other times it has seemed like he was out the door.

I do wonder if we're going to push for Trafford in January.

Really hope we don’t go for Trafford.
