Joelinton: will not play against Everton (Howe)

Recommended Posts

Spent all that time toeing the line so he didn’t get a 2 game suspension, to end up with us getting battered off Villa in one of the games he would have missed, and then missing the rest of the season regardless.

Would love him to be available, but we have had plenty of similar performances with him in the side this season.

100%. What we needed today in midfield was better ball retention of a bit of creativity. Admittedly I think he’d have  functioned better with Tonali and Bruno than Willock did.

If Tonali and Bruno aren't dictating or creating then they aren't doing enough.

Not sure about hardest to replace but we certainly look a lot worse without him starting.

I think he is the hardest to replace because he's not just a midfielder, he combines that with givins us width on the left as well. The only other natural player who can do that is Willock, and he doesn't have the same combative strength in midfield.

Tonali or Bruno you could arguably replace in the side with Miley or Longstaff. Obviously a step down but it's at least like for like.

He's too vital to take risks with his long term health, I've said it many time before I don't really see another player in European football that brings what he does to the side and he and us have taken too many risks with his knee injury as it is. I'd rather we got there without him and have him fit and firing for next season.

I'm fairly certain he is the player opponents hate facing the most out of all our players.

Could Hall be the alternative to Joelinton at LCM next season? First-choice LB but if Joelinton is injured/suspended/needs rotated, swap Tino back to LB. Bring in someone like Walker-Peters to the squad to add more depth to full-back when he's needed there. Could save a fortune on a midfielder of that quality.

I always think back to what some of the players said when we were struggling.

They were talking about 5 a-side training matches and who was the first player you'd pick for your team. It was Joelinton, because he absolutely never give up and was a nightmare to play against. Think other teams have seen this now.

Then I remember how he got his own personal trainer to help turn his career around. He's unique and I'm not sure who you'd even scout if you were looking for a replacement.

Get well soon big fella. You're a huge miss, but come back when you're ready.

Not a bad shout. Hall was a converted midfielder iirc, so he should have some of the attacking/defensive attributes needed. The real difficulty is replacing Joelinton's physicality. He's a beast, and with that height he's important at set pieces also.

Yeah, he’s been excellent this season at LB but wouldn’t be surprised if LCM ended up as his best position for us.

I like the thinking, although we'd be lacking a lot of physicality in the centre if so. He's never going to be the tallest or quickest. He's more of a Bruno stand in, in fact.

I don't think the club will really be thinking about solving depth by constantly moving people around into different positions. Of course an option if we have to.

I think the same applies if we sign Mbuemo. He can cover at striker but I can't see it being a major part of our plan.

It's a lot of change because you want to rotate 1 player. IMO we need to sign another first-choice athletic midfielder. We need a viable alternative to Tonali/Joelinton that is a similar profile but a level above Willock/Longstaff. The powerfulness, the combativeness, the athleticism, that's our CMs USP. We need more in that mould, Longstaff and Willock have the athleticism but not the other pieces. Miley has the technical elements but doesn't impose himself physically on games.

I like the idea of Hall in midfield but not a Joelinton replacement. For me, Miley and maybe Hall can be Bruno replacements/rotations. Or we can sign Angel Gomes for similar.

I've heard some pundits mock/laugh at Joe/Bruno celebrating tackles but it's a massive psychological factor for us and the opposition when Joelinton hunts down a man on the ball, stops him from doing what he wants to do through sheer force and power and is there growling and shouting in victory. Like he loves it. Most DMs these days aren't even built like that and the attacking ones don't like it either,

Back training after a knee injection in Barcelona.

If he plays against Chelsea it's a huge physcological advantage!

Let's roast these blue wazzacks!

This game is huge, with them having Lavia and Caicedo in the middle we need the physicality of Joelinton

I'm totally okay with the club going down the injection and get him out there route because of how important this game is

Surely an injection is a short term fix to allow him to play. Looks like we are patching him up to launch at Chelsea on Sunday. Not sure how fit he his but surely a morale boost for the team.
