Love Joelinton and his physicality but games like today his lack of top level technique stands out 

 

Obviously he wasn't the only one that had a poor game but when teams are on it he's an easy target to getting the ball back

It is a real shame that Willock has been so out of sorts and Miley had so long out and away from the first team. As in games like today. We could do with a different option in midfield.

Tonali was far better than him today, without him today they would have scored 6  or 7

Poor today and seemed completely rattled by the fact that some of their players matched him physically.

When we play poorly he's the first name to get rattled and it's incredibly frustrating the amount of fouls and nonsense he gives away.

Today? He was terrible man. Tonali was the only player in our team coming out of that with credit.

Evans had him rattled from early on today, really needed to step back from it all & pick his moment, got sucked in & hopefully Eddie guides him through games / moments like this

I thought he was the worst of the 3 midfielders, tbh. He was very loose with the ball (either holding on too long or passing to nowhere), not effective with his physicality, and capped it off with poor finishing.

 

A fantastic player but you see his technical limitations against well organised pressing sides.

Tonali was comfortably our best player on the pitch today, never mind being the best of the midfield 3. 
 

Joelinton and Bruno were terrible.

I'm not sure they did, I think he got rattled because they were allowed to consistently get away with fouls, which he got picked up over. Lewis Cook in particular had a couple of tackles that were lucky not to injure someone, he had a habit of making it like a scissor challenge or having another swing with his trailing leg all game. It wasn’t why we lost but as mentioned in the ref thread, Atwell was utter bobbins

I'm sure he wasn't always as sloppy as he has been recently. It feels like every game the ball bounces off him a couple of times or his short passing has been well off the mark. I adore the guy but when you consider the outrageous quality next to him in that midfield, you wonder how much longer his strength and athleticism is going to keep him in the side despite his (occasional) lack of ability on the ball.

 

It's not like Bruno and Tonali lack physicality so Joe might have a job justifying his inclusion if there comes a point where we can invest again at CM. (Probably nothing to worry about for about four transfer windows then )

I think next season the scouts will be looking for a left footed centre mid.

It’s getting close to the point where Miley should be given a shot there, for me. Joe does clearly have talismanic qualities and is held in the highest regard by his teammates, but Miley looks like he can offer what he does and more in terms of output.
