Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Fenerbahce, on loan from Al-Ahli)

The thing is though this season he has started to get the assists. It would be a shame if he leaves, but I can see us cashing in on him. As much as he can be brilliant on his day, he’s probably reached his ceiling in ability.

I think we should sell - seen a huge improvement in the team since Eddie came with the exception of ASM.  Just hasn't shown much progress.

Think is a bit harsh, it's pretty clear that he's trying to play with the team a lot more. And work harder running back.

He also creates loads of chances, just other people tend to miss them.

Obviously after a game like last night it seems like we don't need him, and maybe ultimately we won't, but I definitely think he has tried to come along for the ride.

I echo what others have said - I think he's hit his ceiling.

Think his style of play is suited for the European stage tbh. He would have more time and space to do his thing.

A player of similar talent would cost far more than we could generate from selling him, given his injury record. Give him next season to see if he can stay fit.

He's been really trying to get on board the Howe train IMO, maybe his body just can't take the strain.

I'd probably give him a full pre-season working on strength and stability etc. But even as I'm typing that I'm wondering whether it will really make any difference :/

He needs this badly. He is not conditioned well enough for the football we play.

Some fans are so harsh on him. If he had the work rate and robustness, he’d be a ball d’or contender. He’s rarely disappointed when he’s played; injuries are obviously a massive issue for him though.

Last season he made 35 PL appearances. I think he's just been unlucky this season and it will take time for someone with his physiology to adjust from training once a week under Bruce to what Howe has them doing.

We didn't really play this style of high press until this season though didn't we?

It's a shame, on his day he's a match winner, but not convinced he's cut out for the sort of lifestyle he would need to maintain to stay injury free. Either that or his body's just not up to it.

By the way, it seems like Craig Hope has led with his clickbaity bullshit (again - my god I can't stand that bloke)...

Eddie quite clearly says in last night's pre-Southampton press conference that he won't play Sunday... maybe OK for next week, but you never know with hamstring injuries. See here starting at 3:10...

No, and that's kind of the point. For someone with his explosiveness, going from doing low intensity training to very high intensity training immediately will be destroying his muscles. I think a full pre-season with focus on flexibility, strength and conditioning would do wonders for him.

You're right. Pure clickbait from Hope. Definitely a bit of a bellend these days.

Surely we'd have done that last summer? I'd love him to be able to do it, I'm just not sure. If he was happy to take a Wilson type role at the club then brilliant, but can't see that at his age when he could play every week for a counter-attacking team..

He's a clickbaiter. Every YouTube video he posts he talks like he's writing a headline... "Exclusive news"... "I've said it before and I'll say it again" (as if anyone really hangs on what he says). Ideas far above his station.

I dunno, maybe they didn't see it as a problem last season seeing that he'd managed to play in 35/38 games.

I'd be gutted to see him go in the summer, especially with European football. Good chance we'll be playing some counter attacking football if we get into the CL and he brings a different option to anything else we have, not an easy type of player to replace either. A load of players should be on the chopping block before Maxi if we're looking to balance the books too, unless someone comes in with a mental offer.

Issue with the journos is that while all the takeover shite was happening and the years of angst around the previous ownership, club generated clicks were sky high, the journos didn’t need to embellish anything.

Now that the club is finally being run well. We see all we need to really from either club media accounts or by the football on the pitch. So either side of a transfer window, they’re in a full on drought when it comes to their usual clicks.

Eddie Howe has said before he sees a future here for Maxi and unless Maxi isn’t happy to play a squad game, I don’t see any reason for him to leave. Why would he abandon CL football?

We'd be mad to sell him unless we were bringing in a talent on the level of Kvara or Leao imo. Even then I don't see why ASM couldn't operate from the right in this system.

Obviously it’s been a good week, but I haven’t once thought about him, how he’s missing, or anything.

It feels like he’s had his moment with us, which unfortunately mostly consisted of him being a ray of light in an otherwise depressing situation.

He’s the most obvious player we could sell for meaningful money and I think we have to if it helps us bring in a more transformative player.
