Alberto2005
I'm not particularly worried about his inconsistency I think he showed enough back end of the season how good he can be. The injuries are the main problem for me, and that will be why we'll only get 30 odd million.

That's my issue, he can turn it on when he wants to, he just didn't do it regularly enough for me. He's definitely had a bad season but I still think he's had more good performances than bad when he's played. Why not give him another year and see if he can kick on, I mean he's only 26 like. How many people would have happily seen the likes of Almiron and Murphy sold last summer and look at the season they've had. We're going to have a lot more games next season and we need a squad so we may as well keep him and see what kind of season he can have. Honestly, I'd probably still start him over every other winger we have at the club right now.
Matt1892
There is a good chance that Joelinton will be first choice on the left next season, Gordon back up and Anderson in the mix as well so we might not even replace him. I wouldn’t be surprised if the money allowed us to sign youngsters to be loaned out to get that ball rolling, presuming we have the finances to sign the 3 or 4 players for the first team. That's my issue, he can turn it on when he wants to, he just didn't do it regularly enough for me. He's been injured most of the season, but when he did play a lot of his 'per 90' stats, most notably assists, are up there with the best in the league, so in short he did it a lot. His Man City performance was a 10, but how often do you get 10/10 performances in a season? I only gave them out 20 times across 38 games last season and 14 of them went to 5 players. The most anyone got was 4, Pope and Wilson. Trippier, Miggy, and Joelinton got 2 each and all of the others got one across the season, which includes ASM, Isak, Bruno, Schar, Burn, Longstaff. Expecting that level of performance consistently is just unrealistic imo, particularly for a player who only had 12 starts due to his injury problems this season. He had some dud performances, but he also had some very good ones: Forest, Man City, Southampton x2, Fulham, Man United x2, West Ham, Chelsea were all very good games or cameos. Unbelievable
Have people even read the message? He says: “This year has been one of the most difficult (year) emotionally. You are not able to know that as I keep personal things to myself, but I have lost some really important people”. Clearly there has been stuff going on in his personal life that has affected his availability and/or performance level. This is not a goodbye message, it’s a request for positive support and a pledge to come back fighting next year. I for one hope he clears his head this summer break and has a good preseason to re-build his fitness levels. Can’t wait to see him shine in the CL for us next season. Nucasol
Milan linked with him and Pulisic back in January. Wonder if they’ll make another go round for him. Seems less likely now Leao has signed a new deal. Edited June 6, 2023 by Nucasol
astraguy
If he still has to many injuries next season I'd move him on, but ATM I'd love to see him in the champions league for us said before he could be our bale

Having Dan Burn (who i love btw) behind him definitely put a bigger emphasis on him tracking back and covering for a 6'7 LB who is basically a CB. It would be a shame if he leaves. I genuinely think he would be incredible next season in the CL. Also for the money, which im guessing would be 30-40m..i doubt we could replace him with someone who offers what he does. Maybe Moussa Diaby is the only one we could get for that price but its literally a like for like. I'd prefer to keep ASM. love it when Dan Burn is the blame for ASM’s lack of form this season. It’s so lazy. You do realise he had either Dummet, Manquillo or Matt Ritchie playing behind him most of his time here ASM’s form is not Dan Burns fault. If he has a good summer and is fit next season he could have the best season of his career, especially in the CL. Whats a price that you guys would be happy with? 50m? Any price that gets Maddison. If he goes out, Maddison comes in and we still have our full kitty then I’d be happy to be honest.

magvicar
The way I read into this post is Maxi simply explaining what he gave and felt up to this point and as it stands it does not look to me like he's saying farewell. This part is him simply pouring out his good bad and the ugly of the season for him and amid it all managing to come out of it seeing an end product to his and the squads endeavour this season. This alone tells me he's starting a new chapter for the club as in his dream of going places and the fans who stuck by him through the good bad and ugly times for him, to this point in time. He is saying he will give everything to achieve his dreams and these are his dreams starting to basically come to fruition as of now, amid the turmoil of his years before when the team/club and fans were struggling for some real end product. The last part is more of a note to Eddie Howe and co, through the post to the fans to more or less say I'm ready and available to give my all and to help the club achieve better, so please Eddie keep me in your plans and lets see where we can go with the club and to satisfy my dreams. In with that is a sort of little hint that, if Howe deems him to be surplus then he has no control over that but if Howe deems him to be a bit part player then he will continue to do his best when played but in the knowledge that his future could lie elsewhere if Eddie Howe doesn't play him enough. That's what I'm taking from it and it doesn't seem like a farewell to me, more of a please help me achieve my dreams Eddie, for this great club and great fans and great city, first and foremost. I think Maxi like Gordon will up their own ante this summer and become an integral part of our league, cup and champions league exploits. That's my belief and I hope I'm right in that thinking because I love Maxi and I would love him to stay and be a legend for us.

relámpago blanco
I think Maxi will be lethal in the CL, it's unlikely he'll be defended against in the same way. Look at him Vs Man City at home. He was unplayable.
Cronky
That does sound like a farewell to me. There's a lot of 'me, me, me' in there. McCormick
He’s gone from being our talisman to being on the periphery in a year. Must be tough; I’m sure he’s just fishing for a bit of love and providing an apology of sorts for a disappointing season (in terms of his own performances/ fitness).
