Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Fenerbahce, on loan from Al-Ahli)

I think its good business. If we had someone who had Barnes' numbers as well as Miggy's numbers last season, our wingers would've contributed to another 9-12 points. The difference between top 2 and top 4.

ASM was never consistently great against deeper sides which is where we became unstuck more often last season. There was the argument that he'd maybe create more space for others in those situations but having sides with good movement is already an alternative to that. However, losing him reduces one of our better weapons over the last few years against the 'bigger' sides who gave us more space.

I think it’s the right decision to let him go but not overly happy it’s to a Saudi club. I’m sure it’s great financial terms for him but footballing wise it’s a shocker. If it goes through, it’s absolutely vital the squad sees the benefit to it with the correct reinforcements, there can be no excuses.

I'm starting to think that his cryptic posts about 'the haters' during this off season were directed at a section of our fanbase who desperate to get him out of the club.

The only thing about that bollocks is nobody is/was desperate to get him out the club you daft dramatic sod.

He's absolutely right like. There are people who are absolutely desperate to paint him in a dishonestly negative light. To say no-one was doing that is just flat out wrong, tune in to any Gallowgate Shots episode in the last couple of years and there'll be some mention or argument over him and how prevalent it is online and in SJP.

Find it very hard to believe a significant portion of the NUFC fanbase would be desperate to see the back of a mercurial French left winger that doesn't work hard enough for them.

Still don't see any way we would accept that figure tbh, don't know what the fuck is going on there. Got to be some sort of smokescreen.

yes if true this is shocking by the club, brains will cost the same or more

Shocked at the reaction to him going, imagine next summer if someone like Bruno gets an offer we can’t refuse

Unfortunately due to ffp we still have to sell to buy and as someone has said above the way ffp works is that if we sell someone for £100m you can essentially x4 that in spending power as its amortised over contract length...

We absolutely have to accept that we will sell players.  The problem seems to be is that we are all emotionally attached to our better players and cannot seem to face the thought that they could or will move on at some point.  I always think that as long as they do not leave to go to another Premier League team, like Aston fuckin Villa then it is easier to take.

I will miss Maxi but, have to accept that in order to grow as a club we have to change.

ASM for Barnes is a shit deal IMO.

I said this yesterday, and loads of recently trained accountants specialising in ffp told me off.

I remember the days where Wed kick off if a flair player is sold and replaced with a steady English player.

You think this is seriously about FFP?

A lot of fans don’t go to games, or even watch them, and instead follow the team by statistics and graphs - these fans aren’t interested in those edge of seat moments when a player gets the ball and start to run

It's about FFP not actual cost though. Selling St Maximin for £30m nets us about £24m this season.  Buying Barnes for £40m would cost us about £6.6m this season (on 6 year deal for instance).  The sale could potentially allow us to make 3 big signings while still fitting into FFP rules.

Outside of FFP Barnes is just a better player IMO. He's injured less, a much better team player and scores and assists more.

Keep wondering how swapping 1 goal for 13 from the same position is a shit deal........

Barnes has a lower expected hard-ons for people who like stepovers.

Why?

I've seen ASM unlock defences and produce moments of brilliance far above even the potential ceiling of Barnes. I also think he's really improved while he's been here too, is a better decision-maker and has not been in a strop when he's rotated for different situations. He's well liked internally, and he's feared by our opponents. Replacing his skillset is way more expensive than what I think Barnes would/should cost.

IMO.

I definitely think the "he doesn't look up" is a trope that has just been carried forward without reference to how he has improved over the past few years.
