Callum Wilson set to be out for around 8 weeks with new hamstring injury (Howe)

"Start the season as you mean to go on", Callum took the words to heart.

Sigh was kinda thinking was time this guy was sold while there still was some value here. Great servant but clearly struggles to stay fit. Concerned a bit that Howe is slightly overly loyal to him too. Even if he stays, and with injury seems likely, a promising young striker should be high on list of priorities

Wilson's been a doubt for every game for years and will remain a doubt for every game the rest of his career. For a long time its been just a bonus when's he's been available to me.

Good to see some fans remain toxic, slagging off a good player who has put a shift in for the club.

People saying sell sell - to who? Wilson is at best now a 20 game a season player, more if he’s only used off the bench. How much do people think that’s actually worth? He’s not young.

There comes a point where you have to a) acknowledge he’s not going to play that much and set realistic expectations b) acknowledge he’s not going to bring a fee in and then reach the conclusion it’s better to take the 10 goals he’ll score next season than a nominal fee. Wilson is a crock who bangs them in when fit.

The club need another striker, but that’s quite separate

Is it toxic to want a liability out of your squad as you can’t rely on them or are you just having a bad day?

Not seen one slagging him off because of quality or shift.

I wouldn't be giving him the no.9 shirt, especially if we're bringing in another forward. Just a number blah blah, except it's not.. there's a responsibility that goes with that shirt and he's just unreliable. Great goalscorer and overall player IF he's available, but he rarely is.

I wonder if he should have a less stressful training regime and then only be used for parts of games, say the first 60 or last 30. If he is doing the same as the others even training is going to knack him.

On the "sell to who?" issue, the answer would be to a team who wants 10 goals a season from a striker, which could make all the difference in them not being relegated. Many teams from midtable downward will not use a high press. They will sit in a mid or low block and eke out what they can. Survival means taking their chances, something Wilson is very good at. Wilson's last injury last season, the chest one, was from harrassing the opponent's center half in the opponent's box in the closing minutes. That was pretty stupid for us and could be completely unnecessary for his new club. Something akin to Bruce-era NUFC Wilson is still an asset. Someone who doesn't run much or touch the ball very often, but finishes that one decent cross or pinball mayhem you manage to create once or twice a game.

Someone on here had to tell me, but the Saudi transfer window only opened a few days ago, so we may hear more of talk of players heading there from now on.

He needs to be told his place (and maybe Howe too), and also give Isak the nr 9. Something for Bunce to look into.

I do really hope Eddie isn't responsible for keeping Wilson here over the past few months. As things stand I'm happily working under the assumption it's just media chat and the issue is just finding a club that will take him.
