We should really have a decent young striker that can fill in by this point. I thought a large part of the appeal of Dan Ashworth was getting the young bargains that Brighton sign every year.

Come on now, he’s not been here that long to fill out the entire development squad. Surely you can see that this has been a work in progress since he’s arrived?

Hes been here 20 months, deserves sacked and run out of town for not radically changing everything already. Dont you know young bargains grow on trees these days, too busy ruining our ticket systems and not winning us the league eh Kimbo?

Out of interest, how many sides in the league have 3 proper centre forwards? Our main issues are that Wilson is made of glass and Isak is always guaranteed spells out too, and the inflexibility of the rest of our front line. Nobody else can really do a job up top. Could really do with a couple of players who are comfortable across the front 3.

I can only think of Forest and Liverpool.

City have 1 (Haaland) . Arsenal have 2 (Jesus, Nketiah). Man U have 2 (Hojlund, Martial). We have 2. Liverpool have many. Brighton have 2 (Welbeck, Ferguson). Villa have 2 (Watkins, the new lad). Brentford have 2 (Toney, Wissa). West Ham have 1 (Antonio).

As mentioned.. our problem is both our strikers keep getting injuries and we don't have a decent 3rd route yet.

We are better stocked at CF than Villa, Arsenal or Man Utd IMO. It's just that Watkins doesn't get injured.

RAWKish alert. 3 transfer windows and no young bargains added to the first team squad iirc. It’s a gap IMO, especially as we’re concerned with FFP.

Pretty sure Ashworth doesn’t scout the players himself though, needs a team in place before we find players like Brighton did.

We have added them. They are still young and are on loan.

IMO Gordon should be able to stand in at ST. He would need Barnes + a proper RW to flank him to succeed. Not Joelinton & Matt Ritchie.

Garang Kuol, Yankuba Minteh, Trevon Sanusi, Travis Hernes, Cathal Heffernan... all within 18 months.

I think Ashworth is doing absolutely fine. Most likely had a play in the Tino/Hall transfers too.

Surely we won't know how well Ashworth has performed in his role for another 3 / 4 years at least?

In fairness Ashworth has only been in the job a couple of years - made drastic changes to the structure of the footballing side (for the better) and the 1st team - these were the priority - over the next few years you’ll see the youth teams really up skilled with young talent - it takes time to overhaul decades of neglect

Didn't we have to agree not to go after targets Ashworth identified while at Brighton for a certain period of time, too? If so it's not like there was a ready and waiting database of wonderkids that he was allowed to go mad with on arrival.

They've had to start the club infrastructure from near-scratch two years ago and of all the things, quality youth that can step up in an injury crisis is going to be one of the last things we have a reliable stream of.

Gordon was definitely a target for him, pretty sure on the video of Gordon’s first day, Ashworth says something along the lines of he’s been chasing him for a long time.

Wilson has always been and always will be injury prone, long term we need to think about a replacement with the high tempo Howe plays.

He is already 31, so not too long term hopefully
