That new CM then...

Not that this changes much like, pretty much factored out Willock when considering our midfield depth, he's either anonymous or injured. Hopefully this provides the club some urgency to get some proper support for Tonali, Bruno and Joelinton. We're going to need it.

Priority signing for us.

I feel bad for him but I saw no reason not to try and sell this summer. He’s out of form for 2 years and can’t be relied on to be fit. Another year of injury and there won’t be any value in a transfer.

I am tired of this guy.

Fair enough saying this about the way he plays, think it's pretty harsh when it's about him getting what could be a career (at least at the top level) ender.

Sadly his body seems to be unable to hold up for any run of games without a breakdown like this. feels like he could be done as a force.

Wish we'd flogged him before Longstaff tbh.

Kept saying this earlier in the window. Longstaff isn't great. But this "just use the money to replace him" obviously doesn't work with the current ownership. It's not like in FM. Personally I'm convinced that Longstaff was sold because he wanted out, and not because the club had a plan to replace him. If we weren't going to replace the midfielder we were going to sell, I'd rather sell Willock over Longstaff going into a CL season, due to Willocks injuries.

I don't think we were preventing any sale like, you actually need someone to want to buy. His injury record over the last two years would make most teams think twice.

He had to be peddled this summer and like everything this summer we've absolutely blown it.

I'm pretty sure he's been on the market the same way Longstaff was and that we'd be perfectly open to a sale.

The issue is most clubs would think twice before committing any actual cash on any player with his injury issues.

I think he's a better footballer than Longstaff but Longstaff is never injured which means he's a safe bet to spend money on.

No one bid for him

Still. Even when keeping Willock we need a new CM now. The club didn't even seem to be looking for midfielders before this injury. So many was convinced we would sell Longstaff and just easily get a better replacement with the added funds.

As long as Longstaff wanted out we couldn't hold him against his will, ofcourse.

It’s impossible to know that they club are looking at. It’s a complete mess

I’ve said it before, he checked out on us ages ago. He knows he’s never going to be a first team player here again and is just going through the motions until his contract runs out or someone somewhere gives him an opportunity.

He’s always out injured for long periods of time for injuries that shouldn’t take that long. Even today it hardly looked like he was touched, and he’s made a reaction like he’s broke his ankle.

It's definetly not as easy for our owners to replace him as many made it out to be. If so we would have a replacement already.
