And that vision didn’t fully appreciate all the red tape and hand cuffs that would be put in place to scupper our meteoric rise [emoji38]

They would need to have literal shit for brains if they hadn’t read the existing rule book and - given the 18-month delay resolved only by paying Qatar £1bn - that other rules wouldn’t be sought.  I don’t think the PL need have worried - it’s as obvious as the nose on my face that there was no massive injection of funds coming.

I think they backed Howe in the summer and let him have the transfer window after the debacle of Mitchell. In hindsight it’s been an unmitigated disaster and no manager should have power like he did in the summer.

PIF undoubtedly move at a glacial pace and a lot is riding on Hopkinson and Wilson being the right appointments.

The recent comments from Howe re infrastructure undoubtedly are a nudge to show some ambition. Is it a coincidence there’s rumours about Tonali and Tino? I suspect players are now also questioning the ambition.

I’ve backed the owners and think they’ve backed Howe as much as they can under PSR, however we need to see announcements on the infrastructure projects in the first half of next year.

The takeover was also touted to also bring investment to Tyneside which we are yet to see. We keep getting told it’s a long term investment which is fair enough, but that doesn’t really tie in with Hopkinson’s 5-year pledge. Mixed messages and actions will speak louder than words.

The invested in the airport - they sold their stake the other day.  We’re not far off five years in and the investment in the NE currently stands at £0.  No progress on a training ground / youth academy nor the stadium.  Almost as if they were talking shite.

In Oct 2021 we were relegation fodder stinking out the league.

We’ve since won a cup, been in a losing final, been in the Champions League twice and are about to play our third cup semi final in 4 years.

All whilst being hamstrung by snide PSR rules, some of which were created purely as a result of the NUFC takeover.

Chill out man. This is the best it’s been for NUFC in many generations. Go smoke a doobie or summat.

Just had a discussion with me Da on this...

His argument (as a fan of a L1 club):

'Whilst City were trying to reach the top, they appointed the footballing director of Barcelona. In your case you've got some clown-mouth nomark from Forest'.

That's interesting, because that is the exact same argument a lot of people made at Villa (as you know, what with you being one of us, UTV! HEITS! etc, Toony) - Man City came into 'money' shortly after we did under Lerner.

Man City, despite coming into significantly more money than we did, still made a point of appointing the sporting leadership of Barcelona, to look after their investment, whilst Randy Lerner appointed someone who used to run a call centre for him, for MBNA.

And that's why Lerner's money was pissed away.

In short, I entirely agree with your Dad. These things are important.

I'd also say - not wanting to bring us into this, but it's valid - a big part of Emery's current success is the structure built around him, from top to bottom. I think that is vital at any club, no matter how much cash they've got.

A reminder that PIF are wealthy enough that they could have given every single Newcastle fan £100 for Christmas but actively chose not to.

Remember that.

I would have spent my £100 on drugs and pornography, so it’s probably for the best.

It’s been 4 years right?

City Campus started building after 4 years.  Firm announcements after 3 years.

Everyone at the club can see the lack of progress on these fronts.

It won’t feel like the same place.

I suppose the caveat is when Abu Dhabi took over Man City, rules were a bit more relaxed in early seasons so they spent loads to get to number one, then when they started to tighten up, had to start building infrastructure soon and quicker to ensure they remained at the top.

Whilst the rules are known for us, infrastructure etc. should’ve been sped up from day one to help us get to number one.

I likely could see a renovation of Gallowgate being the end choice for our stadium plans, with wording effectively saying long term a new stadium is the aim but 60’000 and remaining where we are is best for all in the short to medium term.

Just can’t see a new stadium coming here any time soon when they’ve got to sort out their own mess for the 2034 WC still.

The rulebook has been changed since then. If City's owners had bought the club today, they would have had to sell to buy, same way we are having to do.

Yes, but that doesn't affect infrastructure investment and it actually makes infrastructure investment more important.

If investing over £1bn in a new stadium is a viable investment then I'm pretty sure PIF will be the best bet for this club to do it. I don't really see who else would.

Not true of infrastructure

It doesn’t take 4 years to make a decision to renovate the Gallowgate or find land for a new training complex.

It does if you're starting from ground zero (i.e Charnley and a couple of administrators), then your CEO is absent for at least six months without being replaced.
