Not being negative, just  my observation:

I find it strange that we are doing this now, when we by all accounts are appointing a DOF very soon. Why not let this person influence these decisions?

At times we seems to build from the bottom to the top.

Don’t get why he has football in his title but the person he reports in to is “sporting” director. Unless we branch out and bring Hatem back as Director of Padel.

No drama at all to say to the DOF candidates: "by the way, we're promoting Jack Ross to be Head of Football Strategy and he'll report to you, if you get the job"

No, of course not.

But he is directly reporting to the new DOF so if they do not align or work well together we will have another role to fill in 6 months or so.

As part of promoting Ross they could let the DOF candidates meet him, or at least have a call to see how they get on. Obviously I'm taking the view that we're down to the last 1 or 2 people for DOF

It's pretty common practice when recruiting senior leaders for them to meet some of the people that'd be working directly for them as part of the recruitment process

Don't want to bring in a DOF / CEO or equivalent to find they can't get along with the senior team, or vice versa. Unless you're specifically bringing them in to shake things up

This may sound like a silly argument, but doesn't basically any managerial appointment in any industry have a prerequisite of working with the people already employed and the structure of that company? (Unless they've been bought in specifically to change that structure)

Is football really that different to every other business? I mean if any manager came into a company and immediately started hiring yes men, that would be signalled as cause for concern, no? Surely a CEO of any calibre should be able to manage a wide variety of individuals 🤷🏻‍♂️

Doing this change before the CEO and sporting director are replaced is a little risky if its not inline with how they want to operate its another potential point of friction potentially?

Unless the DOF is already lined up, which one of the candidates knows Jack Ross ?

True never thought of that think according to Craig no hope it was the ceo which was at final stages/ furthest along with Eales now working his notice period.

Still its one of those things I am torn on they clearly like Jack Ross and its maybe a reward as a promotion which is good and also tries to show they aren't standing still also a good thing.

But for it all to allign it would always be better to have the top job in first down over so there all on the same page.
