There's just been a knacker on 6-0-6* saying he's unhappy with Howe and wants Jose in.

*I know, I know - I only had it on while I was in the kitchen.

Going to take a wild punt it was Jose himself

Genuine, no troll/baiting question for y'all across the pond - does it mean a lot to you that he's English as well or is that more of a "cherry on top" kind of thing?

Loved Rafa, nationality isn't relevant. He just got the club , the area, the people, and he was good at his job. And we took to him like he did to us.

Likewise, loads of my favourite players have been foreign - Ginola, Ben Arfa, Robert, Nobby Solano, David Kelly, now Isak, loads of them over the years.

It's like when people said we hated Pardew because he was a cockney, that was laughable. No, we hated him because he was inept, spineless and a toadying lackey for Ashley. His birthplace wasn't even under consideration.

I don't think 95% of us care where a player or manager is from, even if that's Newcastle. We adored Shearer, but Steven Taylor was an idiot and quite often a liability. We admired Shola for who he was as a person, but hated seeing him play.

I hated the old “they hate southerners” stick we used to get beat with, despite some of the biggest legends to wear black and white being southern. We would get behind anyone if they “get” us.

Nope. It's more down to dignity, like Keegan, Rafa and Chris Hughton, they get the place and don't whine and make excuses even when there was occasion to.

Sir Les Ferdinand is about as London as they come. Rob Lee, too.

I’m a southerner and never got that stereotype at all. Always welcome up there. Even if @Scoot does take the piss out of my accent

The players looks so much fitter than the first few games. We've got proper competition in lots of positions as well now as the squad is finally looking well balanced fitness and sharpness-wise meaning players are genuinely starting to push one another.

I was surprised at the Willock sub but it makes total sense to protect the player. I thought Howe's tweaks yesterday were very good with the Gordon-Joelinton switch and moving Tonali into the middle when he came on to free Bruno up. I'm liking Tonali in that middle role more & more - he reads the game well, thinks quickly with his distribution, and is so fast off the mark.

There's a very decent amount of tactical flexiblity in this side, I want Howe to keep on exploring it. Hoping we break out that 4-4-2 shape against West Ham, I really like Willock in that supporting role.

Wouldn't want him in a month of sundays.

If he did probably course of events -

sell all good players.

buy in a load of other good players.

Perform well for first, perhaps second season - spending lots as he goes.

Performances fall off.

table position dives.

Out of europe - not that we might have been in to start with.

Gets sacked.

Then moans like a rabid 4 year old that all of the problems were manifesting themselves from within the club and nothing could be done about it.

The sooner he takes retirement the better AFAIC.

Really hope yesterday was the first staging post on fixing the away from home piece longer term. We'll still lose games on the road of course, but if we're playing like we did yesterday more often than not we'll come away with results.

Third best defensive record in the league currently.

That's a surprise tbh, maybe down to the poor quality of some of the goals we've conceded. But one quote I read yesterday really struck a chord with me. He said at half time he was unhappy because our build up was too slow, and he wanted us to pass forward quicker. I think this has actually had a big impact on players like Longstaff,  who left to his own devices would pass sideways all day. Since he's come back in the team he's looked a lot more positive. Even if he's missing some of the passes, it makes the team function better and probably bumps his confidence.

That one he knocked with the outside of his foot that just went too far for isak was a good example of that. Rather see him making attempts of passes like that, than taking 4 or 5 touches and killing us everytime like he sometimes does
