Aye.  What you want to do in a game like that is enforce your game. But we were off it in the press. Then you want to at least PLAY - get thedown and do what you do. But we couldnt get that off either.

With a higher technical floor. This will become easier to do. So will having a bigger squad where we can maintain better fitness levels.

Yep. There’s no Gordon v Barnes debate. This new CL format means you really need a squad.

‘I just felt our desire to win and to do well was probably too great.’ Eddie Howe

Loved Eddie’s interview after. He was fully honest and transparent - usually he’s guarded. He knows he’s done a wonderful job  this season with a thin squad. Now he needs management to make it happen for him.

Let's hope we don't have to suffer having Gordon and Barnes on the pitch at the same time next season

For the last time - I’ve not said the team are ‘bottlers’. We just bottled a single game. The best teams and players sometimes lose their heads. City have bottled games in the CL - they are also serial winners, Man U have bottled games and league titles, they were also serial winners.

bottling = the pressure causing you to not perform at your best.  It happens to the best and it happened to us. It’s fine.

Truthfully, I thank you for shining the light on our bad performance yesterday. I like so many fans had no idea what I was witnessing.

I think the issue isn't about whether the term bottling it is correct but more why someone would use that term about a manager and group of players who've given us so much.

I'm not saying you can't say whatever you like, but it's just an odd direction to go in.

I actually don't think the players bottled it, I think Eddie went the wrong direction with his line up and it allowed Everton to gain confidence. When you allow the opposition any sort of confidence, it's very difficult to claw the game back.

Good to see I'm not the only one annoyed when people don't proof read what they've wrote and post shit that doesn't make sense. I've no problem with spelling mistakes and I'm not a grammar nazi but posts like that with words out of order, making you have to think about what they actually mean to say really makes my bananas go too black to enjoy.

The second question went unanswered?

If you played football that is not what bottling is!

Not surprised at all by this TBH, that Eales line stuck out like a sore thumb and I thought Eddie would come back with something.

I've said this a few times on here before as I think it's very telling but no-one seems to agree [emoji38] He's a head coach who consistently refers to himself as the manager. It might seem like semantics to some but it's always been intentional from him IMO, there are clear differences between the two roles and we have heard countless times in the press how he has final say on transfers. That's not normally the remit of a head coach.

I think he wants that authority to continue or he's threatening to leave. Those Eales quotes suggest he might have a fight on his hands. The fact that Mitchell apparently turned us down a few months ago and has then come in as AS has left adds a further layer of intrigue as well, I think. What's changed to make him change his mind?

Not saying I think Eddie's off, and I really hope he isn't, but there's clearly some work to be done.

Might frame this.

Best PL era managers (at least 38 games in charge). Keegan still pipping Howe at the post, points per game wise.

How will likely be our PL era manager who’s managed the most games by the end of next season. Class.

I know it’s been said before but he achieved unprecedented things at Bournemouth and now here. Some boy.

Project that forward 21 games and you'd like to think that Howe's NUFC will have out-scored Keegan's over the same number of games.

Crazy how underrated Keegan's defence was though.
