Should have been 3!! Fucking Poyet man.

No Trippier last minute error vs. Chelsea last season and it would likely have been three finals in three years for Eddie.

We lost that one in the quarters but Chelsea only had to get past Boro in the semis.

Tactical master class yesterday. How in the hell does centerbacks press that high up without being exposed on the counter? And it lead to a goal as well. Never seen that before.

That was an absolute masterclass

What makes it even better is that he was up against a guy that's had longer and way more resources than him and he schooled him

A lot of people just assumed the 5 at the back meant we were going to sit in our box and just defend, doubt anyone expected to see Schar/Burn press so high to the pitch and it worked an absolute treat

Obviously we all want to win the final but I badly want us to win it for him, I know he won't be thinking that way and for him it will be about the players and the fans but I'll be thinking about him

Crazy to think if we'd stuck to our usual formation, the 2nd goal never happens.

Schar pressing so high was outstanding and really did a job on Rice, who couldn't get into the game and delivery was poor throughout the game.

Can tell from the interviews afterwards, the players really trust Howe on what he's telling them.

Some nugget posted this on the BBC site!

I don't think you can call someone constantly linked with other jobs, including England, underated. Nobody doubts that he's a good manager, and he's overseen a total rebuild of the side around him. However, he took one of the most expensively assembled teams in the League only as far as 7th last year, and will probably miss out on the top 4 again. At Bournemouth he did fantastically to get them as high as 9th, but also got them relegated. He's also won nothing yet..

he’s underrated but that’s fine afaic.

it’s mental, mind. How he’s not talked about as one of the best after taking a side on the brink of non-league straight up to the prem and keeping them there for 5(?) seasons, then taking us from what looked like certain relegation to the fucking champions league the following season . These are two monumental feats that would make any manager’s career had they achieved either.

Find it weird that people are giving credit to Howe for Schar pushing up that high when people just laugh at @TBG for suggesting it. Sickening.

I called it an Eddie Howe Masterclass before kick off.

About time I got some respect on here.

Hope the bloke who was on my Metty back home and fell a kip within seconds of getting on lived at the final destination  Not sure he would have had it in him to sort a taxi.

brilliant set up from Howe, executed brilliantly by the players

so much for that 'no plan b' some here were throwing at him

absolutely delighted with that, even if it means our league form will likely dip again before the final

Think we can become, or already are, an excellent cup team / bogey side again the 'big' teams, including in Europe

Howe is very tactically astute, seems very creative and good at nullifying better teams, as well as us having a good blend of athleticism / intelligent players

Wonder why this is why we can sometimes be lackluster against mid table sides, as there's no 'masterplan' needed

I hope we stick to the 5 at the back the formation just seemed to really suit the players- looked both solid at the back and a threat going forward

Think he will revert to 4-3-3, went for height hence the change.horses for courses and has their number.

Yep, it was about pushing Schar onto Rice, and Bruno onto Ødegaard in their half, as explained by Sir Eddie after the game. It was an Arsenal game formation tweak.

Must say i hope he tries this again against other opponents though, obviously tweaked to suit whoever we're playing.
