I almost forgot how efficient we were in that 523 formation under Rafa. We really should utilise it more often - it fits our squad great.

Always thought we had the players to pull it off successfully, although I get that Howe prefers to play one way so we can build on our identity.

Think we can become, or already are, an excellent cup team / bogey side again the 'big' teams, including in Europe

Howe is very tactically astute, seems very creative and good at nullifying better teams, as well as us having a good blend of athleticism / intelligent players

Wonder why this is why we can sometimes be lackluster against mid table sides, as there's no 'masterplan' needed

Our best attacking players enjoy space to run into. Bruno aside we don't have great methods of breaking down a low block. As good as Joelinton and Murpy have been, they are not top 6 players in terms of keeping the ball and moving it around. Murphy can play a great final pass but his general play and passing can be super wayward.

I think you've touched on exactly why - our team is packed full of running, energy, workrate but little real guile. Bruno and Isak are arguably the only players in our side capable of unlocking a defence with something other than pace and power. For me, we need a #10 in the mould of peak-Erikson, Odegaard, Foden or someone of that ilk who can create something out of nothing when sides sit back against us or nullify our usual weapons.

Howe is under rated in the media imo.

He's underrated by most because the majority of people still think we spent Saudi billions to get here, which also means any struggle is viewed as severely underperforming.

Think also he’s not a big name ex player. English. Leans more on physicality than technical ability - less possession based.  Not managed at a top 6 club or a fancy one abroad.

Last season I felt the media wanted Ange to be great.  A big part of that was the style of football. Di Zerbi similar in the past.

Iraola has the big hype this season. Dont watch a lot of Bournemouth - they remind me of us. There I think being foreign is a bonus.
