I’m going to back him until he’s gone, because he’s achieved so much for us, both in terms of actual success but also the intangibles of uniting the club. However…that today was a fucking joke. The front 3 were a state. We bottled the game in terms of energy, and it’s symptomatic of wider problems. If he can’t do Europe + a league campaign, he’ll be gone eventually.

I know Howe's turned things around a couple of times in the past but I'm not sure how possible that will be with this team playing this way and with this mentality. I think there are huge issues with the mentality and attitude of the entire squad and club, it feels like there's a massive negative cloud that's constantly hovering over the club. The games are largely awful to watch, we look really poorly coached and organised these days, we're a piece of piss to play against and we're easily nullified.

To flip all of that around and turn losses into wins seems like the biggest jump of them all, we don't need a tweak we need a complete F5 and I don't see Howe being able to change things enough, quickly enough to fly up the league. I can't see the 6 or 7 game run of wins anywhere, we're a million miles away from looking like a team that's good enough to qualify for the CL. Just not sure there's another rabbit in Howe's hat this year

We're often seconds away from wins and that was only our 2nd loss in 7. I dunno if results are as far away as performances feel.

I'd like to question him about how we wants to play, whats the plan with Wolt and Wissa, as a 2 or replacements for each other ?

I just feel results can be turned around if the performances are there, I don't think the performances are actually there but we've got some results regardless??

Last season we tweaked one thing (Sandro for Bruno) and it clicked and we went on an amazing run. This season it feels like the entire thing needs ripping up and putting back together with changes to formation, attitude and players and I think it's too big a problem to fix to get an instant change and go on the same kind of run. We've played so poorly for so long (despite getting the odd good result) that the issues are too ingrained and systemic to fix quickly

The obvious one is Wissa, but you would hope there'll be others too, possibly with new players in January.

No he wasn’t [emoji38]

It was an awful game where fuck all was created by both sides and lost with a freak OG.

We were shit and they just about beat us. “Absolutely out thought tactically” come on man. This was hardly us getting pumped under Bruce and Pardew 3-0 every other week that had any sort of basic set up.

To be honest, if they had the calibre of players we have, they’d have battered us. They were tactically better than us with inferior players, which is essentially what made it a level playing field.

I don’t think so. Both teams basically played a low block and they offered very little. We just scored on OG.

It should’ve been 0-0.

Surely that depends on who was brought in to replace him

Just because we've had an inconsistent season and an awful day today that doesn't mean every historical decision needs to be reviewed through today's shit coloured lenses.

He was a vital part of one of the most successful seasons we've ever had. If you think he should be replaced going forwards that's a different argument but you simply can't rewrite history. The decision was the right one .

How much would he have cost to replace ? Would the replacement have played to the same standard? The Joelinton we got for 24/25 was fucking brilliant in so many key games. It's no coincidence that since he's not performing to that standard the side aren't either.

Tbf, they never laid a glove on us. So rubbish we never mounted any sort of coherent attack.

Given how little Wissa was involved in the last 20 minutes then I'm not pinning any hopes on him at all tbh. The entire formation, composition and mentality of the squad needs to completely change, it's totally wrong and has been for a while. Things have happened that have set the club back and that's been unfortunate but I just don't recognise this Newcastle team in relation to the last 2 or 3 Newcastle teams of recent years. This current iteration is lightyears behind the one from 2 years ago for example - and to flip all of that around in the next few weeks is beyond Howe and any other manager imo.

Crossing our fingers and hoping for a good run at the minute is folly, it's not going to happen unfortunately, there's way too many things to fix. This is why I fear for Howe

Nothing to do with today, just you cant put a statement out saying we wouldn't have won the LC if we had sold player x. If we had sold them with no replacement then fine but there is no way of knowing (a) who would have been brought it and (b) how they would have impacted the team.

I love Big Joe and was happy when the contract was given. Doesn't make it the right call though

he's gonna carry on with the elanga/gordon shite against chelsea isnt he?

just to prove a fucking point.

To be honest, I'd rather he kept playing Elanga. For the time being, it's the only way he's going to improve. Plus Murphy has been pretty poor of late.

If he does and it doesn’t work things will turn sour at home.

Really hope it doesn’t come to that but SJP can be pretty toxic

Do folk think he can change it around with the clearly different approach that's needed?

No, not in my opinion. He’s not going to radically change how he’s always done things.
If he does turn it around it’ll probably because we get knocked out of Europe so he can concentrate on preparing all week for one game again.
