He's right though we didn't get battered like you said we did.

We had more;

Possession

Shots on target

Shots off target

Blocked shots

Corners

Crosses into their box

And obviously 2 more goals

Probably my fault for not being clear enough. I wasn't saying battered all game like

That 20ish minutes from the start of the 2nd half where Howe didn't look to change anything and just watched on, which has went bad for us a few times.

Next three in the league are big. Palace and Leeds at home, Wolves away. Should be winning all three if we're to kick on. Nothing to suggest we won't remain inconsistent though.

Bloody Wolves away terrifies me. I wish they had won one or two by now. They are bound to win one eventually and quite often when NUFC roll into town...

People get far too low after a loss and far too high after a win with the Howe argument. Last night was pretty shit in the middle part of the game, don’t know how anyone can dress that up, but ultimately a win is a win.

For large parts of that period Burnley had us on the ropes. Burnley btw.

That said we managed the game pretty efficiently from

about the 70 minute mark and ran our deserved (just) winners. Hopefully a kickstarter before some relatively favourable fixtures in the league. I’m not convinced but I’ve been wrong many, many times before.

I do wish he would make changes a little sooner at times, though. It was crying out for some fresh legs and seemed to take an age to do anything about it.

Screams “Dr Newcastle will see you now…”

We’re normally the answer to anyone’s malaise - Derby County are still grateful for the 4 points in their 11 point season.

Textbook definition of an "unconvincing win" last night. Looked great for the first 20 mins, created chances and scored and looked really lively then as soon as we dropped the levels we concede and it's a slog for the last hour. Not going to dwell on the issues too much and just take the 3 points and look ahead to this run of home fixtures - we absolutely must pick up some points at home now, we've fallen into the pack and need to fight our way back up that league, there's a lot of teams we need to leapfrog and that's only going to happen if we string 4 or 5 wins together.

Still not sure last night told us anything we didn't already know but it's relief more than anything that I'm feeling this morning. Need to back this up with 6 more points from Palace and Leeds now, keep it as high energy as possible, convert the chances and win those games, big opportunity to claw back some of the points we've thrown away in the next few weeks

Think they beat West Ham at the weekend. Hopefully anyways.

Think he got a lot right last night. putting Pope back in, BigJoe back in and Wissa up front. It turned out to be the right decision to play Gordon again, a bit of a shame Barnes on the right but he deserved to start as well albeit not in the best position.

When we were under the pump in the 2nd half, most people were screaming for some subs, but he held on, allowing the player's on the field to manage the situation. That shows trust and builds confidence that we can pull through tough times in an away fixture, even if it was lowly Burnley.

This should stand us in good stead for the coming fixtures. Admittedly it could have gone south as well but you have to make the calls and at the end of the day it turned out well for us.

With the season we've had so far, the fact we are four points off 5th spot is remarkable. Howe can count himself quite lucky with this, any other season and we'd most likely be adrift in midtable and 9/10 points off UCL places.

Just went through and checked this, we currently have 26 points, and are 4 points off 5th. 5th in previous season had the following points at this stage:

2024/25 - 32 Points (6 point difference)

2023/24 - 36 Points (10 point difference)

2022/23 - 33 Points (7 point difference)

2021/22 - 29 Points (3 point difference)

2020/21 - 33 Points (7 point difference)

2019/20 - 30 Points (4 point difference)

2018/19 - 38 Points (12 point difference)

2017/18 -  34 Points (8 point difference)

So this season is basically around or slightly below the norm, with the 10 point difference being the outlier.

I didn’t see any grit, we were carved open time after time in the second half and it was only due to lack of quality on their part that we didn’t concede.

Well we managed to fold to a weak Spurs team at home and we didn’t this time.  Cleared one off the line. While we were bad the last line of defence got blocks in when it mattered.

It wasn’t pretty but it was something.

Under Howe we’ve always seen games out without the ball. Under Howe he’ll see us get battered and the plan is to ride it out as is. Scheduled subs.

Our second half performances being bad is inexcusable mind

Well we now have Palace, Leeds, Wolves and Villa with 3 of those at home, should be aiming for min 9 points/hopefully 10 from that and that likely puts us in the top 6 but need to build momentum and try and stop leaking goals/more consistency in attack.

We also have Bournemouth in cup, Man City and PSV sandwiched between those so will depend how much that takes out of us. Beating Palace and Leeds would take some pressure off, especially as at home. We only have 2 away games in Jan with Wolves and then PSG at end of month.

To use your words, come on man.

If you don't rate him any more then fair enough but that sounds like you are looking for reasons to have a go at him.

I do rate him, and still back him.

I've also seen him post match be very honest for a long time even when we're poor and I respect that, but when we were clearly all over the place second half and he says that he's insulting the fans intelligence to me.

Maybe I'm wrong and he was just saying it to give a positive spin on things, but the lack of control in games isn't a short term issue hence why I was concerned when he said that.

Wouldn’t be a surprised if a lot of the hatred (and it’s getting to genuine levels amongst many), boils back down to them not wanting him as manager in the first place. You only have to look back to read a lot of people genuinely thought we were going together a name manager.

That every argument they’ve had to put forward against him, including and since his shit start, has been batted away through the covers it’s only natural the resentment can have built and built to the point you’ll lash out hard which now they are.

I used to think outsiders calling us delusional was daft, maybe they weren’t.

Personally I think even this is embarrassing, but it's still clearly a very noisy minority who are keeping the stereotype alive.

That also doesn't include the lads and lasses who want him binned, but won't overtly say it. Instead you'll get something like...

"I don't want Howe sacked, but I do hate his looks, the way he dresses, his tactics and everything else he stands for and I'd change them all immediately. He just isn't elite, not like Unai. Have I ever told you how elite Unai is?"

Oh FFS this is pathetic, man. None of you have the faintest clue what oppression looks like, but you scream it like toddlers every time someone pushes back on your opinions. Fucking grow a pair, and argue back without resorting to this horse shit.

They ban you. Happened a few times, I'll just shut up tbh, I enjoy this forum.

If I didn’t want to be banned I’d simply not lie about my Mam dying in a car crash after a poor result to provoke people. Nor would I back calling players or posters retarded.

The bar isn’t a high one and next to no one gets a ban on here and yet…

I am sorry, but this is bullshit as evidenced by the history here. There was literally one aggressive poster who rationailized the murder of innocent civilians for tens of posts, and finally got muted after careful deliberation. But it was clearly a decision that administrators did not take lightly. We've seen all sorts of garbage in this thread without bans. And you're sitting here complaining about the evil administrators banning you for little things, but here you are complaining about it in a really passive aggressive manner.
