It might be the cherry on top for a lot of folks, but in no world should it be a precipitating event.

Losing to Sunderland twice in a season would be tragic, outside of the latter stages of cups they’re the biggest games of the season.

Managers will get critics wherever they go. If anything Newcastle fans are more forgiving and loyal than most. Howe won't get hounded out, I think Baldwards has still got a chip on his shoulder against fans who gave him shit after his support of the Ashley regime during the takeover process.

Respectfully disagree. I poke fun at it, but the hounding and dog piling of players has been a common occurance for some time.

Even many moons ago, when I had a season ticket, we had a group of geezers behind us that would spend most games hurling abuse at whoever was flavour of the month.

Hounding out like the Sir Bobby hounding out where people's disappointment at a disappointing season and a fraction of 1% of people thinking maybe its time to look elsewhere was interpreted by dramacists as hounding out

Agree with all of that except the bit about him being given the wrong players this summer. He got the players he wanted mostly, or at least the ones which we could persuade to come here. There's no way anyone was signed over his head.

They are evidently the wrong type of players he needs to put a winning functioning team out.

Whatever the reason they were chosen, I have no idea of the actual inner workings beyond the usual press reports/people making shit up.

Apart from Ashey's patsy's we've only 'hounded out' Souness and to a much lesser extent Jim Smith since the 80s.

Crowd though increasingly disappointed hadn't turned on either Dalglish, Gullit or Ossie by the time they left

Not sure that's true of Gullit, there was a gradual build up of dissent that climaxed with the Shearer dropping/Sunderland result. He walked as it was clearly about to turn pretty hostile.

Specifically remember him being roared on and off by the crowd when he confronted Rennie after the Villa game a few games before that, getting a massive ovation going down the tunnel at Wembley and wrongly maybe it being more the players (Karelse, Dalglish's dreck) that were being blamed. Never heard or heard of any anti-Gullit sentiment until after the Sunderland loss and he was gone hours later before anything like that manifested, maybe astutely

'Hounding Out' implies to me banners, chants, protests, such sentiment over a sustained period of time and all that not just being disappointed with things or having doubts, there's basically no manager that hasn't been subjected to that. We weren't even getting booed off.

Banners and stuff were never needed under Shepherd tbf, that only became something that was needed specifically with Pardew under Ashley.

For all of Shepherd's faults, of which there were plenty, hanging on to managers that weren't producing the goods and were never going to wasn't one of them.

Timing was often an issue with Shepherd, that and the appointments themselves. I don't think Dalglish would have ever got it right but to sack him after 2 games of the season (2 draws as well) was bizarre.

Sentiment on here was that he should’ve been sacked after finishing 5th.

We started his last season with a draw I think and the team got boo’d.  Not grumbles - boos.

Time for Eddie to go, he put together this team of grafters and lack of technical ability. The summer transfer was exactly what he wanted, him and his nephew in full control and it was a disaster. He's not going to take us to the next level of a possession orientated team.

What’s riled me well and proper is him manufacturing false narratives that will do nothing but help perpetuate the deluded Geordie myth in a national newspaper whilst supposedly being a journalist that covers NUFC. He can truly get to fuck.

Militant Newcastle fans, who are they? Is there a Toon actual Army I don’t know of?

Not that I'm aware of.

But why let truth get in the way of clicks.

Well, yeah I’m sure of that.

If the grand ambition of this club and its supporters is that we’re the best team in the NE, then sure.

I’d suggest the minimum ‘ambition’ would be to be taking 4-6 points off a newly promoted side particularly given the local importance and the feeling of fans. Given we now can’t achieve that, Howe needs to be gunning for them in the home game to salvage some pride particularly for the local fans who have to live amongst and work with those cretins.

If you don’t place any value on the outcome of the derby and consider it ‘just another 3 points’, I don’t know what to say to you tbh….

I was at the 4-2 Villa loss - my 23rd birthday IIRC, which ultimately he was sacked after. I travelled down with 10 of the lads, all season ticket holders and away day regulars at that time, and I can’t remember anyone calling for SBR out, before on the train or after. The ReadyToGroom Walter Mitty brigade have well and truly done a number as time has gone on.

Shepherd said as never going to hire consecutive good managers.  SBR was always going to be his best appointment and so it was.

Shepherds appointments were a disaster. Won't even give him credit for the SBR appointment as it was a tap in in front of an open goal.

Missing out on most of our first and second choice targets was exactly what he wanted?

But when you say he got given the wrong players you are already making an assumption that he had no input on the players who would be coming in. That's not been my impression, I doubt we bring anyone in who he doesn't want here.
