The College Dropout
PL has 2 Europa League wins in about 15 years. You would think PL teams dominate it the way you lot are talking.

Probably a preception thing west ham winning the conference recently and then an all prem final last year.
duo
Conference League is more of a hindrance than a help. Look at West Ham man.

It is definitely easier to win now that the champions league format has changed though, look at how bad the two finalists were last year. Villa are probably going to finish 5th/6th in the league and win the Europa League this season as well.
Yorkie
50 minutes ago, The College Dropout said: PL has 2 Europa League wins in about 15 years. You would think PL teams dominate it the way you lot are talking. That's irrelevant because the competition has changed and Atalanta were the last winners of it before it became horribly undermined by the CL expansion. The new format invites PL domination and if Villa win then that's two out of two.
1964
If Villa win the Europa, is there a chance 6th place get champions league?

The Prophet
Europa League, Europa Conference. I'll take European football in any form it comes. European football is class for fans. It's a chance to win a trophy. It helps our coefficient. It exposes Eddie and the squad to the two games per week format with more opportunity to utilise the squad. Don't really see much downside to any of it.

No, an extra place isn't created if the teams who win the European trophies have already qualified via league position. You can have 7 teams in the CL, but only if the CL and EL are won by English teams who have finished outside the top 5.

IF we have a good summer we should have the depth that they didn’t though. Should be cruising 80% of those fixtures, although the schedule and injury list has been rank at times Eddie has handled the fixture buildup better than 23/24. Id expect him to improve on that again should we qualify. Edited March 17 by Nine
Cronky
1 hour ago, Kimbo said: I agree the Europa League is easier to win these days, and the winner gets a champions league spot. Why would we not want that? My take would be that unless we win it, it's not worth bothering with, and of course winning would only be a 50% chance at the very best. A team that is capable of winning the League Cup is also capable of winning the Champions League. Only the very best European teams can compete with the likes of Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool etc, and we've proved that we can beat them in knockout competition. There's no reason we shouldn't aim high.
Alberto2005
I'm game for the Europa League, I honestly couldn't give a shit about winning the Conference League. Sure it will be nice trips for the fans though.

In any case they are the 8th and 9th richest clubs in the world - multipes of wages and squad cost of the entire competition. No surprise they won. Let's see if Villa win it. Personally, I don't care. I simply want to win more trophies.

Can only assume you're talking about the Lyon game and the manner of the victory, but we were coasting in that and some would argue we were unfortunate to find ourselves in the position we were in. Conceded a 90+5 equaliser in the first leg and were two goals to the good in the second leg. Funny enough I would fancy the likes of Lyon to beat Villa. I don't think The Europa League is as easy as people seem to think. There's some really good teams in there.

Might also encourage us to sign more developmental players and play more youth. And man we need to win trophies.

Vaj
Conference league would be a great opportunity to give players like Neave, Sahar, Park and Munda some actual minutes to help them develop if the situation works out that way. I have gone for those four because they have all made the bench at different times. This can help them be more ready if we have an injury crisis. We could have really done with Sahar having that bit more experience this season in my opinion, as well as Howe taking a bit more of a risk, because when we were down to four defenders, Trippier seriously needed a rest and it was hindering the whole team as a result. The Conference League is basically the best thing that UEFA have done this century, that and the Nations League, they're competitions that allow the smaller nations that don't normally get a chance to play in Europe a chance to do so. Something like 11 nations have reached the group stage of a European competition for the first time since its got introduced, thats invariably a very good thing, it gives them teams a chance to grow and get the exposure of playing in Europe, gives their fans experiences they never thought possible. The problem is that people in England and look at the teams in it and scoff, when them smaller teams are what make the tournament great.
