Yeah we won the game but, jesus, we couldn't string three passes together and everything just seemed to be kicking it forward as quickly as we could. That might win you a match or two but it's not going to bring sustainable success. I think what really got me (and the lads I was watching with) was the contrast with Brighton who were knocking it around confidently, putting together intricate plays and passing movements. It just wasn't good. I only saw the post I quoted, so if that is the case, then thats fair enough I still completely disagree entirely with what you where saying
KennyUtd
12 minutes ago, Loki679 said: Well, neither you or the other guy have actually made any attempt to refute the points I made. Points which have been repeatedly mentioned by other posters in this thread and the match thread, you've just cast shade. Bring a discussion or go home. Okay, that's fair. We weren't terrible today and had lots of goal scoring opportunities. We did score 3 against a team in great form. I disagree with you saying we won but were still crap (I'm paraphrasing ). That's about it really.

They’re putting a shift in, which was my big worry after Palace and Bournemouth.

Tony Pulis had Stoke winning games by kicking it up the field and winning the second balls but that won't push you into the top bracket of clubs. Brighton took it down calmly and played it around on the floor and could quite easily have levelled it if not for bad luck. They're 7th we're 13th. Kick and rush might keep you in the division but if we want to be challenging for those CL spots every year then we need to play football. It just really frustrates me because I think we have the players capable of playing decent football but we seem to focus on running faster and jumping higher rather than playing through and around teams. I think we can do better is all I'm saying and I don't think the way we play now is a sustainable path to long term success.
Mikky
Bank the 3 points and move on to the final 3 games We really need to attack these last games - get some momentum going into next season. My biggest concern post international break is the volume of changes made, it’s going to create disharmony especially when it’s EHs favourites coming in and let’s be honest they aren’t setting the world alight either with their performances I am genuinely concerned because there seems to be so much to do in the summer

Weezertron
We still have to be cutthroat in the summer. Players like Willock and Murphy being chosen for this run in can't still be here next year, no matter how well they do.

Today’s performance wasn't amazing, we rode out luck at times, and Brighton had some guilt edged chances. Infact I think they probably deserved a draw. However, so did we! We created some really good chances ourselves, and where the better side in the first half and deservedly went in ahead. Brighton then came out strongly and played like a side that were 6th and riding high on confidence and we played like a team that had lost 5 on the trot, and where really nervy (the prime example being Thaiw who's usually quite composed on the ball, just giving it away time and again) which is to be expected, its basic human nature, if you're low on confidence you tend to go into your shell, and to snap the streak we'd been on it was always going to be like that. Overall I would say there are probably more positives to take from today than there are negatives, and in a period where its been really turgid, where we have been really up against it, people are going to latch on to them and be happy that we got the win, and did so against a good side that tend to be our bogey team, so let people enjoy the win without acting superior. I’d enjoy the win more if that post had had some more paragraphs. Not gonna lie.

Its obviously not a sustainable path to success, but it’s a means to an end to get through this season. You seem to be casually ignoring that we have played some of the best football an NUFC team has ever played over the last few years… something that THIS manager brought to the club. He absolutely has the ability to get us back to those levels (and surpass them), I have zero doubts in my mind. But for me we just need to scrape through to the end of the season with some positivity, however we achieve it. This summers going to be really interesting! Kid Icarus
Teams in poor form and low in confidence rarely get results by suddenly playing good football out of nowhere. There has to be something that goes into the cycle: a result, an improvement, a new player, something that gives the players some self-belief in order for the football to improve with it. Yes - it really worries me - I mean even from today it’s obvious Pope - Willock - J Murphy aren’t at the level we need our backups to be - Joelinton, seems to be addicted to making unnecessary fouls and you are only seeing bits and pieces from him - there is so much to do and if we don’t do it we will have a similar season - I just don’t see anything changing
STM
I completely agree with anyone who says it's just one win and doesnt change anything.... However I've been saying that since the 1st of February, because I knew we weren't going to see a massive upturn with this current group, for a whole variety of reasons. We need the summer. NUFC91
His game management was far better today, switching formations in the 2nd half also helped. Hopefully we can kick on and get a little run of form to end season.
