I don't disagree but obviously the owners have made a choice and us willing a change isn't going to move the needle.

Eddie is a legend despite what's happened and I hope lessons are learnt from all involved and he turns it around, this summer gives us an opportunity to clear out some of the rot and get some players in who want to be here.

100% however Howe has already said he doesn't want wholesale changes because it upsets the squad

We are better off judging that when the window closes. I very rarely bother listening to Eddie personally.

I'm not answering any more questions I went out of my way to look it up for you last time and you called it irrelevent.

I do however, wish you a pleasant evening.

Same as half the squad.

7 points in 7 games since he's had "more time to do training drills" with one game a week.

I fear the issues are bigger than I was hoping and think him getting another crack at it is the wrong decision.

If he gets backed this summer and then gets binned off within 10 games the new manager will have even more EH players that are one dimensional.

Reading The Athletic write up and this stuck out:

In January, Howe had pushed to sign Rayan, the young Brazilian forward, but the club demurred and instead the player left Vasco da Gama for Bournemouth. It meant another window closed with Newcastle failing to upgrade their team.

Surely there was a way we could have offloaded a fringe player like Willock to

make this work?

This is my concern too. I think the worst thing we can do is keep him, back him and then sack him before Christmas.

If it was my call id have made the change already. it's going to turn ugly extremely quick next season.

I read this and struggled to understand how this could possible be the case honestly

Wonder what the odds are of Howe getting sacked, us relegated and Sunderland winning a European cup next season?
Feels like a certainty.

Fairly damning that.

I’m beginning to turn I think. The form has been so poor for so long, with no real uptick in performances. I do not feel like next season is looking positive tbh. Hope I’m wrong. I also have no idea who we could / should go for if we sacked him, but I think we probably do need new ideas now

Ireola would be interesting

It's important to recognise that twisting would obviously be a gamble, but this version of Eddie shouldn't be so hard to upgrade honestly.

Wouldn't mind us twisting on Hoeness, Fabregas or Iraola personally.

Rightly so. This season has been an exercise in endurance. I think huge swathes of the fan base are just sick of this season and want the break to recharge. 17 league losses is horrendous.

This at a time when Gordon was clearly negotiating and had eyes only on his exit and Tonali's agent was making noises in the media.

Feels like people forget there is so much more to management than picking 11 players to start a game.

None of us have any clue as to what Eddie might have had to deal with behind the scenes.

That's the job he's very well paid to do. If it was easy he wouldn't be getting millions per year.

Wonder if it means Howe has given up on Elanga. Fingers crossed.

If that's the truth then the lie (that we'd scouted him for 3 years but Howe was against it) has already done the rounds and done its damage.

I think the whole premise of us improving thanks to the relaxed schedule was undermined by the defeat at Palace. I don't think any reasonable spectator would've expected us to suddenly be mint after the international break; we just needed to get the mini-season off to a good start. Instead we capitulated yet again and - if the following Bournemouth performance was anything to go by - the players had lost belief in us achieving anything this season. Against that context I think it was probably wishful thinking to assume things were ever going to get much better. Brighton/Forest/West Ham was pretty good but just far too little, too late.

I was hopeful that things would change in the run-in too, and I think the theory was pretty valid given how farcical the schedule was prior to the break. But it hinged on us starting well but we started horribly.

I don’t care about others, Spurs have been mismanaged for years and have been sleep walking towards this. Chelsea are clearly ran so poorly this would happen at some point. Chelsea have made big moves in getting Xabi to ensure this doesn’t happen again, Spurs with a big De Zerbi appointment. Look at West Ham this season, it seems an impossible task to get relegated these days but they did it.

We need to make a statement so we can say this is a one off, it simply can’t happen again.

But they've all replaced manager after manager and continued to fail after throwing millions at it too.

Might be be some of the other lads half assed it this week in training and he's trying to regain his authority?

Wanted to keep it tight and get a clean sheet?

I'm sure he has his reasons.

I think he was experimenting with formation options for next year. In theory the wing back system should suit us with three decent CB and attacking full backs. Clearly needs more work if we are to go this route.

I disagree with 3 at the back suiting is.

We don't have 3 good centre backs. Let alone then 5 you would want to make that system work.

We have zero wingbacks as well.

yea but Eddie can think in other way.

tbh I do think Eddie has priority in some players that he is willing to change the formation in order to play his favourites
