Speaking of giving youth a chance, where on Earth is the Park kid?!

Considering how good he looked in pre season, I can't believe he hasn't had the odd cameo at some point.

Especially when Murphy and Elanga were out injured.

Sueng soo Park has been tearing up the reserves. We struggle to break a low block and I think this lad could do something our other wingers can't with his trickyness around the opposition box.

In a way maybe ECL or UEL would be better so we buy lots of youngsters for the group stages and not so intense games

bruno will still want to play every game however lol

Feel like our calibre has gone down a notch or two. We wouldn't be able to attract a Bruno, Tonali or Isak today - they joined because they thought PIF were going to make us the next Man City. Now it's clear we're an Aston Villa or Spurs equivalent, we're attracting the next calibre down.  Not Guehi, but Thiaw. Not Ekitike, but Woltemade.

I don’t like using it because our issues are more elsewhere, but PSR is a reason for me why the level of player is down who we are going after.

Early on we could go for those and pay them £100k-£130k because we had the wage head room. Problem now, we didn’t have that because we need to reward the better players to keep them and the ones who arrived on less and deserve(d) more (Gordon / Tino / Hall etc).

So going into transfers we can’t pay the wages. We could for one player, but it then means compromising wages elsewhere. Like Elanga / Ramsey / Wolte will all be low wage end (say 300k collective), but we could have got the RW and have them 200k but then ST / CM needs to be 50k.

Means a different approach to transfers which I feel we was getting right early on , but now getting it wrong. Because we’re spending a lot and tying wages up in average squad positions, rather then spend on a top player and spread others on development.

Like Trippier / Krafth / Lascelles / Willock / Schar / Targett would be what, 400k wages. Do we then as replacements sign a CB / LB / RB / CM at £100k each. Or reward players on wages, spend £150k on a CM, then £50k on other positions because they’re young / raw players, knowing they are clear back ups.

I don’t think our wage bill is astronomical. Last accounts it was less than Villa

Villas is dire for % wage to revenue turnover, but ours is at the higher end for what will be the limit soon.

So unless our revenues increase mega fold, we are restricted to what we can do wages wise for the short to medium term, which means careful squad building.

That's based on a season with no European football right?

And even then it looks like the first sanctions would be fairly minor.

As has been said - we are overly cautious about the whole thing and are paying for it on the pitch.

Aye,These halfwits doubting his tactical know-how because, as we all know, you don't need tactical savvy to turn a relegation doomed team into a regular CL outfit 😂

Not sure the personal insult is necessary.

It wasn't aimed at you personally, tbf. I was replying to Ed.

Unless, of course, you're one of those that does think Eddie Howe knows jack shit. Then it was.

I think people still underestimate how far behind financially we are to the richest clubs. The difference between us and Arsenal (who are a whole other leap behind City and Liverpool in terms of wages) would mean keeping Isak and adding Ekitike, Olise, and, at minimum, another similar cost player or two.

Yes we are, but that doesn't explain the lack of intense pressing that served us well, it doesn't explain why every forward move now goes down the wing to inevitably lose possession or end up with defence passing between themselves every time then to pass back out wide for Gordon/Barnes to either fluff a cross out, run out of play or go backwards. This team in this guise looks more terrified of losing rather than trying to win. We've spent badly and it's kicking us, but that doesn't explain how why so many of our lot are out of form and not doing the things that got us in CL in the first place. It doesn't excuse why without fail we get like for like substitutions on or around 60 minutes every week. It doesn't excuse why we've conceded so many after 90 minutes. It doesn't excuse why we are rank bottom for points from losing positions. It certainly does not excuse why there isn't a single player willing to take a shot unless in the box.

Tell you what, away to the European champions, missing our talisman captain and competing against the most corrupt ref I can remember seeing - we get a point and for large parts of the game look the better side.

Put some respect on his fucking name.

That was huge, great performance for a big game and using a totally different set up

It worked because of how PSG are set up but we also looked much better with the ball even accounting for that
