Not sure the under-26 policy is as unmoveable as it once was. Carroll, Rose, Hendrick, Wilson - all over 26.

'Keep us up inexpensively' appears to be the only meaningful policy in all football operations.

I get that, but surely he's going to want at least a 2/3 year contract, and I can't see us getting him for just the rest of this season. What's the positive for any club releasing a 30+ year old to Newcastle for a few months?

He's probably on pretty high wages

Above all it's Premiership experience they look at now, Bruce banged on about a lot.

Guess we will see if carr is really back lol

Choudury has been the shittest of all names mentioned so it will be him if anyone

Yet he would probably be one of our best midfielders lol.

Gueye was good for Everton wasn’t he? Best of the midfield options linked so far.

He was brilliant in his last season for them. Would be an absolutely enormous upgrade on Hendrick.

He’s featured a fair bit for PSG this season. Assumed he’d probably just made a handful of appearances or something. Not a chance are we signing him on loan.

So Choudury or Gueye would replace one of our midfielders that play in front of the defensive midfield but behind the attacking midfield ?

Makes no sense because they are both more in the mould of Hayden and are more suited to the defensive midfielder role.

We should be looking for midfielders that can replace Shelvey and Hendrick in the roles they played on Saturday IMO.

If he’s going with ASM, Almiron, Fraser & Wilson with Lewis an attacking full-back, there’s a bit of logic to two sitting midfielders. Schar can still bring it out from CB with Hayden dropping in to cover when he does.

Yeah, that's true. If we're eventually going to change to more of a 4-2-3-1 then it would make more sense for sure.

Players do not want to play for the bloke in charge and unfortunately under Ashley we are not see now as an attractive club to play for. Can you imagine a player coming into the club and having to play under Bruce. Players have been able to watch every PL game this last years so it’s quite easy to see the level of football constantly being played under Bruce.
