December 2001 probably when we were hovering around the top places then beat two title contenders away from home back to back going into Xmas top of the league. Remember a quote from Ron Atkinson randomly where he said he thought after the Arsenal win we were just keeping top place warm for one of the other teams but after the Leeds win he thought we could win it.

Great times :)

But yeah, there was often an element of patronisation around for us then. Even when we were flying, journalists would often pester Robson, asking about how old he felt and why doesn't he go and put his feet up in a garden shed. He was in his late 60s. Funnily enough, when Alex Ferguson hit that age, I don't remember him receiving the same treatment.

beating leeds and arsenal to go top at xmas under SBR.

We'd already lost 4 times by that point like. I feel like we've been brilliant for most of the season and shouldn't even have lost the one match that we have.

He’s fucking class, such a shame he’s at the tail end of his career. We need to get a quality young right back in who he can help mould before he hangs up his boots. The one thing you can’t replicate easily is his ability to deliver a dead ball into a dangerous area accurately. It always gives us a great option

To the tune of Long Way to Tipperary:

"I've got a bonk-on for Trippier, me

I've got a bonk-on I know..."

Fun. I've been calling my dog Kieran Nippier when she's being bitey.

Watched the match with a couple of Spurs supporting mates.  He was rated on the whole during his time there, I think.  But they can't believe how much he has improved.  They seemed to suggest he wasn't as effective and influential going forward and he was a lot worse with his one on one defending when he played for them.

Weirdly, I still think his defending when he is isolated is still his biggest weakness.  But he often seems to start with a bit of a wobble in that regard, then adjusts and just starts to dominate the game.

Pulls the strings from right back and seems like a model pro.  Special player.  Absolutely love him.

Have any of them watched Trippier at all this season?

"Trippier will go because Gareth loves him" is so ignorant and plain stupid.

Trippier is up with TAA in terms of progression and chance creation.  He's doing that withouth Salah, Firmino el al.

Trippier is also massively better than TAA in every other department and also a leader.

Not even a debate.

Yeah I still don't really fancy him up against anyone with pace and space in behind, but we're so organised as a collective that you rarely see any one of our defenders in that sort of isolated position.

Every time a pundit speaks about Newcastle should be an eye-opener on their views on other clubs. Neville is consistently not clued up on us.

Carragher is by far and away the most knowledgeable of the Sky Sports lot and crucially for me, is always humble enough to concede and say 'the fans will know better than me' when he's talking about other clubs.

He's come back a much better player after working with Simeone like. I think he says that himself and you'd probably expect it. I remember me and everyone being exasperated at Southgate starting him at left back for England
