Palestoon Posted Saturday at 18:59 Share Posted Saturday at 18:59 Can't even be upset with him. This is who he is now at 34. Howe needs to take the blame. It's one thing to have him in the side for his tactical awareness in a back 5 defending a 2 goal lead against a static Arsenal attack. But to play him in a 4 against this City side with the pace they have in attack was suicidal.

Newcastle Fan Posted Saturday at 19:02 Share Posted Saturday at 19:02 This one is on Howe, he got too excited with his performance in a 5 and decided to start him, hopefully lesson learned.

Gallowgate Toon Posted Saturday at 22:03 Share Posted Saturday at 22:03 He's still a very good footballer technically, but his physical limitations are there for all to see (and have been for some time). We have to use him just right until the summer. Tino needs to develop mentally - competition is the best thing to drive that. Doesn't help when his CB partner is also very, very slow. Stifler Posted Saturday at 23:41 Share Posted Saturday at 23:41 We had a good year out of him. The first 6 months he was here he was mostly injured for. Last season 3 games a week caught up with him. This season he’s just been outright poor. We really should have cashed in on him in January with Turkish teams after him.

You say that but we always seem to look worse when he’s subbed on. His strength as a footballer was never his defensive abilities anyway.

Love Tripps for that first couple of years but it's over.

Howe completely isolated both him and Hall with his tactics of going man for man. You have to be perfect to play like that and it didn’t work today. City isolated Trippier, but they were only able to do so because they exploited our tactic of going man for man.

Did we expect them to not try to exploit that weakness? If we play him in a back 4 against any decent side, they can do the same. I think we can safely expect the opposition to at least have some knowledge about our players. Edited Sunday at 17:13 by Erikse

They were able to gain a numerical advantage v both full backs because they beat our lackluster press with smart, relatively direct football. I'm sure the intention wasn't to leave him hung out to dry.
