Does he want one or does he think he can go onto bigger and better things like his mate...

I think he’s probably been fit to play for a while and not getting minutes will have caused him some annoyance, hopefully the last few games will have set him right again. But agree, even if other clubs are sniffing, we need to tie him down and if he wants a release clause, it needs to be something that makes financial sense.

If VVD was a 75m player 4/5 years ago or whenever he moved, Sven must be worth at least 60-70 in today’s market?

Sven played a fantastic pass from the edge of the box, through the lines straight into the feet of Wolt in the centre circle. Was much later on in the game and I think Wolt was too tired to bring it under control properly. Dat pass though.

Given what it would cost to replace him, it’s got to be worth while making his contract extension extremely lucrative. To find a player that can defend like that and pass like that. So rare. But to already have such a player. Criminal to let him go unless the fee is extraordinary.

I was worried that maybe the injury had got the better of him but these run of games have shown again that he still has it. Having Thiaw next to him is massive as well, there was one stage I think it was first half where the ball went over the top, as good as Schar is I fear if he was on the pitch his pace would have let him down, Thiaw just ate up the space and dealt with the issue with ease.

I think sometimes he does everything so easily that people don't realise how class he is. Makes it look effortless.

I understand people's exaggerated fear of people who have been injured etc, but I don't see any reason not to slap a big new contract in his mush.

I remember that. And chipped it out to Trippier instead of blasting it into touch. Very competent and classy.

It's almost 6 months now since he was cleared for selection following his knee issues, isn't it? Playing time has somewhat been limited due to easing him back in, but mainly because of how well Burn has been playing.

Seems to me he has overcome his injury issues now.

I think most of our players from abroad will want this. It's a reality we and most other clubs have to live with

Players want to play and win at the highest level their ability allows. It's why they're here in the first place really. Hopefully we can match those ambitions but PSR makes it very difficult.

How they go about 'going on to better things' is a different matter entirely.

I love the little fake he does like he's going to pass it back to Pope.  Only to then step back, drop his shoulder and come away with the ball.

He's not quick at all, but he buys time and space on the ball with how intelligent he is.

Yeh. No point everyone waffling on about contracts for the likes of him and Tonali. They will already have it mapped out what they're doing next

Just enjoy it whilst we can and try and get their replacements scouted and ready now (as tough as that will be)

Still got to prove his fitness for me over an extended period. His quality is obvious, our best CB in terms of ability.

6 months injury free. Just played the full 90 in 4 successive games over a two week period.

  • 2 weeks later...

He's been so good this season. The bedwetter in me is buzzing to see him celebrating goals so much too, after the conjecture in the summer about him being cut from the same cloth as Isak. Hope he stays with us for years to come.

Does he have to abide by the head injury protocols? Couldn't really see the injury form my end and not seen owt about it

Direct from the gaffa:

“Sven’s fine. I think he’s just got a cut so there’s no concussion there. A good decision from the on-field physio to take him off.”
