If he wants somewhere in that bracket. I don’t think he would deserve that for his role within the team and his injury history. But at the same time, Burn and Schar aren’t getting any younger. So we’d be replacing 3 CB’s in a short space of time. 
 

I think he has mainly been brilliant in the CL this season. But had some iffy games in the league. 


I feel yesterday opened up the gateway for Burn to come back into side at LCB for Everton. And Burn will want to be playing regularly at CB because he has a very legit chance of going to World Cup, so if Botman is basically a back up CB up to summer, it makes giving him a new deal on £120k+ very difficult to justify. 
 

You’re right it opens up needing to replace 3 CBs in a short space of time, but maybe that’s what has to happen. 2 CBs this summer coming knowing season has ended with Thaiw / Burn as starting CBs. Then Burn replacement in 2027?

 

Botman wanting to stay on just a fraction more wages would be best all round. I don’t feel there’s a market for him to get bigger wages elsewhere and compete at top end. So maybe we hold the power here.

It’s a shame, the first while he was here he looked immense, intelligent, unshakeable, the only minor weakness being speed/agility, but he was better than he looked that way and rarely did it cost him. After the injuries it seems his confidence in tight spaces is dented massively, and he seems a bit slower. I think we need to keep him and improve the team in terms of composure and technique. Sick of seeing us endlessly misplacing passes. We need a midfielder who technically exceeds Bruno, whether it’s a prospect or now. Shame these last 2/3 years we didn’t sign someone with the potential to do it, because we can’t sign Eze’s once they reach that level.

He’s had a serious injury but still has the age to get back to the level he used to be at.

 

IIRC.. VVD took a while after that Pickford injury to get back to his best levels which were last season, think maybe age and also the team playing shit is exposing him now, it’s the same for Botman.

 

Very few in our side have looked ok in the last number of away games. So while as an individual he’s got some way to go, the team is exposing every frailty too.

Not now no, as proven the other night when he gave away the ball about 10 times in a row. Hardly a murmur on here, Gordon was playing. 

Botman is about as quick as Bruno,and is floundering since his injury, apparently

It would be a mistake to lise him, but also his wage demands have to be realistic, he cant expect near the same as Bruno, who is our captain and Brazil international, while Botman is currently still uncapped by the Netherlands

This is the concern with paying him what he is worth. 
 

When fit and firing. He would probably be one of our highest earners based on ability and performance levels. 
 

But he has had some bad injuries and a load of niggles the last two seasons. Definitely lost some agility and quickness because of the injuries and all. 
 

This might just be a precaution and he ends up being fine. But I still don’t think you can commit big money to someone who has such an iffy fitness record.
