Newcastle will hold fresh talks today over a move for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.

Aston Villa still hold interest in Bissouma but are exploring other options, so the door is open for Newcastle to make an approach for a player they had earmarked at the beginning of the window.

Brighton want £50million for the Mali international, 25, who has 18 months left on his contract.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are ready to discuss personal terms with Bayer Leverkusen left back Mitchel Bakker as they look to finalise a deal worth around £16m for the 21-year-old Holland international.

They are also continuing their talks with Sevilla for defender Diego Carlos.

Tottenham expect Newcastle to make an approach for midfielder Dele Alli as well.

Newcastle are awaiting news from Manchester United on how much they want for Jesse Lingard but if that deal continues to falter then Alli, 25, has been put forward as an alternative for them.

£50m for a player with 18 months left and a police investigation hanging over him? No thanks. Better spent elsewhere.

The Mail article states: “That valuation, plus Bissouma’s wage demands, have prompted Villa to assess alternatives such as Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara and Rodrigo Bentancur of Juventus”.

personally, given the fee and legal issues, I’d much rather we be in for the likes of Kamara.

He's 25. I don't know much about him, but if he's anywhere near half good, then would be a decent investment.

Not with a court case hanging over him and only 18 months on his contract imo. Those things notwithstanding, he might be.

Bissouma is class, I can't see us paying silly money for him though. Is Is he still in bother off the pitch?

Yes. Under police investigation. They had to release him from bail so that he could go to the AFCON- it’ll resume when he’s back.

If we're checking the character of players off the pitch, it seems like a non-starter then.

Excited to see what the squad looks like after the window.

All the left backs we've been linked with seem to be very attack minded, surely the plan is to go with wing backs and 3 at the back?

Didn't take the court case into account actually. if he came here, he'd be found guilty 100%. Best leave that one.

I think so, it would also explain why there's been no particularly strong links with defensive midfielders (appreciate there have been rumours of Haidara & Bissouma but not to the extent of various centre halves and strikers)
