Sell-on clause after wanting so much upfront and loan back is ridiculous. We need bodies now. Plus if we loan him back, what if he gets injured?

Impossible terms.

Reims and Lille ownership are clearly best mates like

outrageous terms (which they are of course free to demand).

Like someone else said like I wrestled with the moral aspect of this takeover not for like Chris Wood. Aware he’s better than nothing but still

Look at some of the trash Man City signed the first January window after their takeover.  In 2022 I would call the Bellamy and De Jong prices an overpay, let alone in 2009.

3 January 2009DF Wayne Bridge Chelsea£10M[25][26]

19 January 2009FW Craig Bellamy West Ham United£14M[27][28]

21 January 2009MF Nigel de Jong Hamburger SV£16M[29][30]

1 February 2009GK Shay Given Newcastle United£5.9M[31][32][33]

Even the second season was shoddy and scattergun outside of Tevez and Gareth Barry

1 July 2009MF Gareth Barry Aston Villa£12,000,000[27][28]

1 July 2009FW Roque Santa Cruz Blackburn Rovers£18,000,000[29][30]

1 July 2009GK Stuart Taylor Aston VillaFree[31][32]

13 July 2009FW Carlos Tevez MSI£25,500,000[33][34]

18 July 2009FW Emmanuel Adebayor Arsenal£25,000,000[35][36]

29 July 2009DF Kolo Touré Arsenal£16,000,000[37][38]

24 Aug 2009DF Sylvinho BarcelonaFree[39][40]

25 Aug 2009DF Joleon Lescott Everton£22,000,000[41][42]

They bought mainly established Premier League players. They were also in a much better league position than we are currently in. Our options would increase hugely if we were 10 points better off.

Also it's notable that 10+yrs ago £25 bought Tevez / Adebayor.  Adebayor at that point scoring 1 in 2 for Arsenal give or take.

Man City were a stable upper mid-table team. We have to get to the same before we can attract better players, hopefully within the next couple of years. Relegation will add a few more years to that.

Yep it's pretty much all down to league position. Why join now, when you can wait to see if we are relegated or not and then join in the summer. IF we stay up it will me immeasurably easier to get 'marquee' players in the summer.

I would take some of these players now ?

Man City didn't have a clue what they were doing when the took over, the reason they're where they are now isn't just that they threw a load of money at things, they've improved things massively behind the scenes.

If you look back some of the people miffed at the transfer market so far were wanting us to get a DoF sorted, with elite staff brought in, even before we had a manager.

One difference is they didn't have FFP to worry about so blowing £35-40m on Adebayor & Santa Cruz and writing it off didn't impact them over the next few years.

They’ve probably spent just as much behind the scenes which has enabled them to be the elite club they now are, the two go hand in hand of course, off-field and getting it right on the pitch which they succeeded in doing and I’m sure we will too one day.

Aye that’s often overlooked. We can’t quite do that.

There's probably a half dozen examples at a smaller scale in Germany or Holland of clubs who are just well ran though. Man City are just an example of a team who did it through spending.

Just feels like we should have atleast hunted down a well renowned scouting network or something.

I think they were in the relegation zone in January 2009.

The season before they had some relative success with their dodgy owner for a year, but previous to that season there was a thread on here titled ‘Citeh Are Knackered’ or words to that effect because they were financially and competitively on their arse bones.

It’s incredibly lazy to say teams like Chelsea and Man City have bought success.

Aye, they’ve spent a lot of money on it but they’ve also massively improved the clubs behind the scenes. In different ways too.

Man Utd and Everton are two current examples of how just throwing money at something doesn’t equal success.

I'm sure we will at some point, but having a takeover go through in the middle of a season probably throws a few spanners in the works.

So it takes both then. Where would Chelasea and Man City be without the ability to spend more than everyone else and a large part of it before FFP (Risk free) ?

Pretty sure Chelsea were on the verge of going in to administration before Roman bought them and then spent an amount on players that was unprecedented at the time.

Yes they  did buy success initially, but success breeds success and now they can survive without a billionaires help

You what? Chelsea’s latest accounts specifically state that they are “reliant on Fordstam Limited for its continued financial support”. The company is owned by Roman Abramovich, and has indicated it will continue to support the club “for the foreseeable future”.

So there are ways an owner can funnel money into a club without drawing attention

It’s in their official club account statement- hardly not drawing attention. The point is though, that despite their successes (and spending), they still have to be bankrolled by their billionaire owner. They wouldn’t survive, as you stated, without it.
