Graeme Bailey’s latest update on 90mins says the deal “will be FFP friendly” as NUFC have a lot of business to do this summer. No idea whether that is 5 years of instalments or loan to buy with permanent deal guaranteed.

Quick, over to the reliability thread to see how reliable Mr Bailey is.

I thought transfers were amortised for FFP - so paying in installments will make no difference, as the amortisation is based upon the length of the player's initial contract?

From a ‘Tier 1 ‘ source ( whatever that means…).

” There’s news just breaking from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano that agreement between Newcastle, Reims, and his agents for the transfer of Hugo Ekitike is getting very very close.

It’s so close that it seems safe [whiffy… tier 5 speak] for the 19-year-old to fly to Newcastle to have his medical and sign along the bottom line, and that could happen in the next few hours, according to Romano.”

It quotes the January tweet posted by @PauloGeordioabove. [emoji38] Don't people check the dates on tweets?

I know it’s overdone, but it was mental seeing people basically write the guy off

Is it though? Owen fucked his hamstrings young and was never the same player again. It's wise to be cautious over injuries that could hamper a player's career.

What does wise mean? Cancelling the transfer?

The media are all over the shop with this one as well. Most sources are reporting we've agreed a fee and we're negotiating with his agent, but you have Bailey and Romano reporting that its ticking along, while Hope and Edwards are reporting that its stalled. Then you have the odd journo reporting that we still haven't agreed the structure of a deal with Reims.

The club are clearly keeping things quiet and its created an information vacuum that is being filled with rumours and educated guesses.
