Chris Wood (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Recommended Posts

Letting him go before we have a replacement lined up/in is dangerous from a financial perspective, it weakens our buying position, however I trust the club.

I also agree that for the princely sum of £15m and taking Wood off of us, they can now be called Nottm Forrest.

Thanks Chris, you were a donkey but you did let the ball hit you on the head sometimes. For that I guess I'm grateful for your presence in our Lazurus-esque resurrection in the past 12 months.

Basically way too good a deal to turn down for a player that probably would have left in the summer anyway. Frees up a sqaud place that we now need to fill ideally with a midfielder first and foremost.

Getting £15m back considering his age and recent goalscoring form is a hell of a result tbh.

Wish him well & would definitely rather Forest stop up this season then the likes of Everton, Southampton, West Ham etc.

Just now, Joseph said:

Howe clearly isn’t comfortable with his departure. Unless people have convinced themselves that he’s simply playing mind games/4D chess in the press etc.

He is being a decent and fair human being. As we would expect. Focusing on the positives of what Wood has contributed. My read is that it opens the door for a different kind and better forward player. He’ll be delighted if he gets his man (one close to top of list). We need someone, not just want, but no guarantees is all he’s saying.

Any details on how much of his wage they will be paying? If he was on the 80-100k reported then even if Forest pay half of that during his loan period it should open the door up FFP wage wise to a signing.

Ain’t a chance in hell Ashworth and Eales would allow a player to be sold that hasn’t been approved by Howe.

Get the sense that 1) the deal was too good to turn down 2) Howe approved it on the condition that we get a replacement by window-end 3) the club may or may not have someone lined up but they’ve importantly been given the green light by the ownership to spend money on it

£15m for a fringe player on a massive wage, the wrong side of 30 and with 18 months left on their deal is far too good to turn down.

I hope he does well. Seemed like a great bloke. That transfer fee was like a millstone around his neck though. He always looked under pressure.

Yeah sounds like it was too good to turn down and unexpected so no replacement lined up.

Howe said we have a pool of players we like as far as replacements are concerned, but obviously he can't guarantee how negotiations will go for any of those options. So wouldn't say no replacements lined up. Just a matter of if we can land any of them.
