The College Dropout
Always liked Chris Wood. Bad fit for us. But a good PL striker.

Nobody
He's a decent 1 in 3/4 striker, his recent record is a bit like Almirons purple patch a couple of years ago. Fair play to him, seems a great bloke, but please stop scoring now mate.

Pilko
He seems like a great guy and I'm genuinely buzzing to see him playing regularly and scoring for another side, he wouldn't have got the minutes here. Other than when we play Forest I hope he keeps firing them in and has another few years at the top level, he's proven he can score at a good rate in some pretty limited sides. Erikse
He's scoring at an unusually high rate yes, might be his best 9 game patch even. But lets not forget that he has scored atleast 10 goals in 5 different seasons before, including 14 last season. I'd say Wellbecks recent scoring form is more of an outlier. I seen with my own eyes what he was like, backed up by his goal stats during and immediately before his time here, particularly in comparison to his previous seasons. Wallace
Not sure but I assume Wilson was injured when we signed him and we needed a striker as Saint-Maximim was playing up front at the time. He provided structure to the team in a way that Maxi was unable to. He did the job he was required to do although the lack of goals was disappointing. We also had a remarkable win rate when he played. I don’t think we actively tried to sell him but when Forest came in for him, he wanted to leave. The College Dropout
He’s scored something like 18 league goals since Nuno was appointed. Up there with Cole Palmer and only behind Haaland. Good fit.

St1pe
I don’t get why there has to be such a debate on ex-players all the time. Factually he was awful for us in front of goal - it’s not even debatable he was mostly useless. His work rate was great and tried hard for the team but frequently missed chances. He’s done absolutely brilliantly since he left and he’s one of those ex-players I’m chuffed about whenever I see he’s scored again. He gave his all of us but it just didn’t work out. bobbydazzla
Because we’re a fickle fanbase and a large percentage of our fans love slagging off our own players, either on here or at the match Wood never clicked for us and as a result he got slagged off when playing here and has been used an example of an awful signing who we wasted money on and we should have known better than to bring him in When in reality he’s a decent player who still knows how to score goals, it just didn’t work out for him here. Which will happen sometimes Edited October 26, 2024 by bobbydazzla

The Butcher
Wood was a shite signing. Expensive and shite. The fact that we got a good fee for him and that he's doing well now doesn't change that.

SUPERTOON
Regardless of what side you are on regarding Wood, surely it shows an example of what we desperately need to do more of ? Getting maximum value when we sell a player, regardless of how well the do once they leave ?

Assuming Wilson had stayed fit even part of the time (I know) you'd say we let him go at the right time too once Isak was fit and up to speed. It was a successful transfer for us both in and out. Lad gave his all every match and the usual suspects were particularly cunty about him regardless (best fans in th' wuuurld). It's great to see him making them look so stupid tbh. There's so much that goes into getting the best out of certain players. Most need a setup that benefits them. The exceptional players find a way no matter what, but those are rare. You watch how isolated Isak can be in our setup sometimes and you understand why Wood struggled. Isak has still been great for us anyway because of his greater ability and talent. The thing Wood really struggled with was holding the ball up in general play, or dropping into space and linking play when needed, which is required in our 4-3-3 because there's often no one playing off the striker. At forest they play someone in the number 10 position which takes a lot of that responsibility off him, as he can just stay high up the pitch. I think he also benefits from playing with two wide men that are more traditional in looking to beat their man and whip a ball into the box. He's showing he's got really good goal scoring instincts if the right conditions are put in place for him. I don't think he would have ever showed the same for us with the way our system works.
