Motm for me. Daft pass at the end after Trippier kept the ball in, but covered every blade of grass and showed for the ball consistently.

The petulant fouling is something he’s always done and will likely keep doing. 
 

It’s the kind of thing people ignored or made excuses for when he was the golden boy. I think some are turning on him and using it as a stick to beat him with. Whole time he’s the same player doing the same thing. 
 

 

He was the best midfielder on the park by a distance. One thing I noticed is Longstaff lets Bruno lead him. And he fills in. Tonali plays his own game and doesn’t work well with Bruno yet.  

Hopefully Tonali and Burno can develop a better understanding over time, they are both quality players in their own right but they seem to detract from each other at present rather than compliment.

I think its the third spoke in the wheel that complicates things. That's not to say any of the options there are a problem, rather the system complicates B&Ts relationship.

 

Double pivot (as the cool kids would say) or an old skool Lee/Clark type combo imo allows the relationship to flourish and allows for a tweak in formation to add an option supporting the striker.

 

Dare I even suggest a 3-1-4-2 (or version of) once Hall and Livra get in the team to be the way forward if we want to build around these 2

Giroud is quite possibly one of the slowest players I’ve seen ?

Intriguing. Howe was very anti-release clause. I wonder would conditions trigger it and whether it was the player or the club who want it there.

Might be the club that wants it there to retain value after a certain period of time. It's all very vague.

Wonder how the release clause works? I honestly don’t think he’s got the physicality to play for a Real or Barca. Could Chelsea invoke it? Seems strange.

Don’t really blame him, no guarantees we’ll keep making champions league, end of this season he’d have been here nearly three years, assume he’ll see out next season as well and then if we’re not in the CL and he’s doing well, then a move would make sense for all parties.

I don’t know much about contracts, but guessing release clauses are probably pretty standard for players who are potentially still on the rise.

I think they are becoming increasingly used in the PL and they’ve been widely used in La Liga for years. It would be interesting to understand any clauses. Only CL teams? Exclude PL teams? Only Real/Barca?
