He's been an incredible signing and integral to the togetherness of the squad.

Fucking superb.

Feel like they really wanted to target him and that side early on, they gave up on that plan pretty quickly.

Solid signing. Great Geordie!

He’s been very good. However I think he’s a bit too slow on the ball at LB and sometimes not very good. At CB he is more than good enough because there he has more time on the ball.

He’s probably not our first choice LB going forward but he’s doing a good enough job there at the minute.

6 clean sheets now is it?

To start with, I have selfish reasons for not wanting too many of our players to go to the World Cup. It only increases the risk of injury or burn-out later on. (no pun intended)

Burn has been great for us, but that's under the umbrella of Eddie's coaching and the spirit within our squad. Take him out of that, and it could be a different story. A major part of his contribution has been his leadership, personality and communication skills, which might get lost among the big egos of an England squad.

Besides, England have got a number of decent CBs to choose from.

I can’t argue against this as I completely agree with you mate. Just a minor detail I felt mentioning. He’s been class for us and also a great character in every way. He has done more than anyone could have asked for.

I don't think I can remember another time where we had a truly asymmetric set up based on the players we have, but all credit to BDB for being part of that and creating the position of LB/LCB hybrid and making it a thing. He's enabled Schar to become a CB/DCM hybrid and dovetailed beautifully with Botman too. I wonder what will happen when ASM is back fit, whether ASM will end up with Targett at LB and we revert to having a symmetrical set up of Targett-Jur-ASM on the left and Tripps-Bruno-Almiron on the right. Would seem harsh on BDB to do that and could unpick our defence where 3 at the back has enabled Tripps to get forward and set Almiron free. In a way, ASM being injured and Murphy being so dogshit that our left side has had to be abandoned in attack has allowed BDB to shine amongst a CB pairing of Schar and Botman, which is as good as any I can every remember us having. A nice headache for Eddie to have.

As much as I want Targett to start, it has to be this back five until it gets snuffed out.

Burn left back playing allows Trippier more freedom to get up the wind as Burn steps into a back 3 when the ball is on the right hand side (I know you will see that also). I think Howe's thinking on playing Joelington on the left hand side is to give him a bit more protection, when the ball is on the left hand side. If Max comes back into the team, then we may see Targett return. I actually think in the summer a top level left back will be bought.

They haven’t exactly got an abundance of choice at LB have they. Plus Southgate likes to have versatile players. I think he would be a worthy addition that being said I’m a fully paid up member of the BDB appreciation club.

I would imagine a lot of opposition fans will cry a lot about his inclusion ?

I love BDB, of course I do, but if I'm Southgate I'd also consider Targett. I appreciate he's not played much recently, but he's such a solid defender and adds a bit more with his passing than BDB. I appreciate he's less versatile but a specialist is often preferable to a generalist in a cup competition, where one small mistake can lead to a costly exit.
