Was he that good today? Palace should've scored at least 3.

Thanks to the Geordie superman, they got 1. Kidding aside, I thought he played well. He has his limitations, like most players.

That’s a fair summary tbh - bloke is 32, gives his absolute all - I can’t ask for much more - whether he’s good or indifferent

Being hyper critical - stick to the defensive line - too often he’s caught in no man’s land and it led to 2/3 Palace chances. A couple of instances he followed Marteta all th way up the pitch for no reason, lead to us being exposed to a counter over the top

I think that is an instruction, mind. No DM to pick them up and Schar or Burn/Botman often aggressively follow their man as far up as into the other half of the pitch.

Why the fuck can't people see this? Do they really think he takes it of his own accord to be that high up right in behind a forward. "No Eddie wants me to hold  the line but fuck him, I'm gonna chase the forward into their half"

really struggles to direct his headers in the opposition box.

That one which he carefully planted over the bar when he had a free run at it...

A lot of tall players don’t seem great at headers. Think it’s because they win them too easily.

Peter Crouch springs to mind as well

He's done well for us and is one of our own, but ask the question; how many teams would have him in their starting defence and you are deffo in the last third of the table...

He arguably been our best player this season. Give the lad a break.

Such an unnecessary dig. Would expect him to start for most teams outside the big 6 tbh.

I mean...everyone being fit, he probably wouldn't get many starts here either. He'd be starting in a majority of teams in the league if they had their best CB out with injury. Burn has been very solid this season.

Probably being pedantic but I think 'astute' is putting it mildly. I'd put him among the best transfers we've made in my lifetime, certainly in terms of value for money. His contribution to this club - not just on the pitch - has been outstanding, and he's still doing his thing even now; three years on from being a handy stopgap after we missed out on our main targets that January.

I think the only Newcastle defender I've loved more than him is the bloke at his right hand side.

probably because we let in 7 goals in the 2 games previous to Leicester

Liverpool have lost 5 in their last 2, I would take Van Dijk like.

When he mercilessly wiped out Bowen away at West Ham a couple of years ago is one of my favourite NUFC moments.

Hahah, that was absolutely beautiful

I think Eddie playing him at LB hasn't helped people's perception of him. He's actually a very good CB as we have seen this season.

Could be true but personally think it's a bit stupid if so because he's played in that position far, far more than he has CB, and was very good there across basically all of 22/23. He's been exposed more times than you'd like; particularly last season, but ultimately he's been pretty dependable there.
